Avery suspended for saying "Sloppy Seconds"

Recommended Posts

Yeah, I've got no problem with what the Stars have decided. For decades, cancers in the clubhouse or players who have clashed with management have been shipped out when necessary. Including stars 100x the quality of player than Avery (think Ted Lindsay, Patrick Roy).

Still not totally onboard with the NHL's 6-game suspension though. Seems like the NHL was doing the Stars' dirty work. The league office seems to play favorites. For example, not censuring ex-league employee Brian Burke for his inflammatory comments against Kevin Lowe, comments which could easily be construed as bad for the integrity of the game, yet telling Lowe to cool it when he finally answered back a year later.

I hardly see Avery's comments (or at least his most recent) warranting such harsh action by the Dallas Stars or the NHL. For Cripes sakes people .... Take the Mike away .... Don't let the man in front of cameras for awhile. ..... I have to wonder who, what is driving this.

You gave the reason for the league's action and didn't realize it.

He used his position as a hockey player to call a press conference and trash an innocent woman and a fellow player. It was a complete embarassment to the league.

It would be like a McDonalds employee calling a press conference at one of their resturants to complain about how unhealthy the food is. It's intolerable to a corporation trying to cull all the good publicity as possible in order to sell their product to be undermindeded by one of their own.

Avery is an idiot who bit the hand that fed him. You make think it's harsh but the league will easily survive without him. Avery has no one to blame but himself.

Did you all catch the Sean Avery-Tim Thomas skirmish from the weekend?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XC51RZNmQBw

It was genius. He didn't try to hurt him, his team was getting beat single-handedly by Thomas, and these teams will most likely face off in the first round of the playoffs. Sean Avery should be one of the last things on Tim Thomas' mind but come playoff time, that might be one of the last things on his mind. Happened last year with Brodeur.

Avery is a ********, but he's a smart ********. This play is actually less dirty than what goes on in front of a net at almost every whistle where punches are thrown, facewashes given, etc. I have no problem with something like this because he's just doing his job of taking the other team off their game.

Love it. Maltby has been doing this for years. When you are on the other team you want to rip the guy's head off, but when you are on the same team you can just sit back and watch.

plus, it gave us another classic example of how professional Jack Edwards (Bruins Announcer) is. "Waffles are good for breakfast, but not in the 3rd period". Nice.

nice hit. Sure sean is an major league *******, but he did what needed to be done to spark his team and help in the playoffs. It's nothing new. Nobody should be suprised.

NHL Star Sean Avery TAUNTED Cops -- 'Fat Little Pigs' | TMZ.com

NHL star Sean Avery challenged cops to a FIGHT when they responded to his Hollywood Hills home this morning ... calling them, "Fat little pigs" ... law enforcement sources tell TMZ.

We're told cops were dispatched to the home over a complaint about loud music -- and when they arrived to Avery's pad, the hockey star was NOT happy to see them.

Sources tell us 31-year-old Avery immediately began running his mouth at the cops -- telling them he would fight all of them ... even challenging them to, "Come back without your badges."

BTW, this thread from a ways back probably belongs more in the NHL section. Avery's link to the Wings is tenuous - part time player for the 2002 Cup champs.

LOL. This guy's a real pillar of society, no?

Though I agree that he's an example of how, uh, weird the NHL has been in the past 4-5 years when it comes to suspensions....
