You ever been there. Outside the cities it’s like Commerce

Yep, I used to live in LA and made many trips up the 5 through cow country.

Visited Visalia a few more times than I would have liked, too.

Need to clarify, 2016 results from Wikipedia

Forests and valleys don't vote. There's dark blue around where 7.5 million people live. I'm not sure what this map proves?

and youre correct that most latinos find it laughable that white people are so offended by their language.

Here's the map from the 2018 senate election. Feinstein is in blue and got 1 million more votes. (Her opponent was a Democrat as California's senate race is non partisan. A Republican didn't even bother to run)

california has a primary voting system where all the candidates run and the top two regardless of party move on to the final round.  it was two democrats who were the top two finishers in the primary so they made it to the run off.  its not that the republicans didnt bother to run a candidate, its that their candidate finished third in the inital election and didnt make the final election.

wait until you have to put your "pronouns" on your email.  lol.

and as to gendering language, they want to change English as well.  people choose to be called "them/their" rather than "he" or "she."  which always kind of bothers me because youre taking a plural and making it a singular, but im just an old gen x person who has no say in anything.  i'll just go with the flow like the rest of my slacker generation.

Like I said, it's non partisan. The highest Republican mustered 8%. No serious Republican made an attempt. The map shows that those vineyards and mountains don't vote. Feinstein won in the Bay Area and Los Angeles. You cut California in half and make sure the Bay Area is in the north and Los Angeles is in the south and you all but guarantee two more Democratic senators.

What would the political and legal mechanism even be for a state to split and remain part of the country? I assume this has to be decided first in a state legislature. But you also would need agreement on the federal level.

Somewhat interesting to talk about for a few minutes, but zero chance of happening. Granting statehood to one or more US territories seems a lot more realistic.

I don’t think the pronoun thing on an individual basis will last. Too unwieldy, too hard to remember in certain cases. But I’ve been using plural pronouns to refer to hypothetical individuals of indeterminate gender for years, versus using masculine pronouns. I think that’ll last because that’s an easy one.

They already do that where I work. It's optional to include pronouns in signatures. I have yet to see one that is not he or she.

the percentage of people to whom that stuff matters is infinitesimally small.  like "latinx".  but the rest of us will have to do it so our employers dont get sued and so they can tell everyone how much they care.

wait wait wait, my employer is going to tell me what to do, based on what they think is best for their business?   Sounds ghastly.  Hope I can learn to cope with that 🙄

what next, they give me a higher salary if I do what they tell me to do rather than not doing what they tell me to do?

i just say "he or she" but sometimes use "them".

my company is all aboard the woke wagon, so i suspect my pronouns will be in my company emails to my latinx colleagues shortly.  lol.

Both. She only has three years as an appeals court judge.

Article 4 Section 3 of the US Constitution

New States may be admitted by the Congress into this Union; but no new States shall be formed or erected within the Jurisdiction of any other State; nor any State be formed by the Junction of two or more States, or parts of States, without the Consent of the Legislatures of the States concerned as well as of the Congress.

There is a proposal that was put on hold to divide California into 3 states. 2 of them would be blue one red. Just one of over 200 attempts to divide California.

I have seen a couple with they/them in it.  It is very popular where I work for people to include pronouns in signatures.  I am still waiting for someone to put: I/me/myself

My company is really about being woke. There was an uproar when we had this woman's celebration and they wanted names of inspirational women and I submitted Stormy Daniel's name.

She couldn't even say the president can't delay an election.  I hope biden adds 45 liberals to the court then I'll post that you should count your blessings because it wasn't 46 liberals

Lol. It was intended as a slam at Trump ... and Paxton.  Barrett is qualified.  She is smart.  She will make a good justice.  That she has repeatedly refused to rule on hypotheticals is a recommendation in my book.

whether the president can delay an election isn't a hypothetical, it's spelled out in the Constitution that she tells us she follows, but ducks opportunities to demonstrate it.
