Classic Wings Games

Man, Bouchard out far on that.

That was goaltending back in the day when nobody butterfly-d.

Whenever I see goalies from the '70s I feel like I'm watching a bloopers reel.

Some striking similarities between the look of Lochead's goal and that of McCarty's goal.

Maybe the best quality extended footage you'll see from The Olympia. Certainly the best from the B&W era, IMO. Habs beat the Wings in OT at the 16:40 mark to win the Stanley Cup. I've seen highlights from the game from a reverse camera angle (i.e, with the winning goal being scored on the right of the screen rather than the left).

Wow, listen to those names..........It's like two All Star teams.

A 2-0 win in Game 6 of the 1998 conference finals versus Dallas to advance to the SCF. 1:34:35 for Osgood's "redemption" after the blunder on a centre ice shot hat lost Game 5 in OT.

A 1969 interview with a 21-year old Mickey Redmond, starts at the 5:00 mark. No, Mickey did not look girly back then. The video's thumbnail is not of him.

The swinging '80s. Playoff bound Red Wings lose 9-7 to L.A. Kings, despite a 5-point night by Ivan Boldirev (4G 1A) and 1G 2A from Yzerman.

Ken Daniels is great.  Dave Strader is still my favorite though -- may he RIP.

From 37 years ago yesterday, a 2-minute news item on the first home opener of the Illitch era.

The Red Wings start the 1989 playoffs with a win over Chicago. The Osterman Twins sing the national anthem and then, at the 6:25 mark help with an octopus toss.

Late in the 1989 season Yzerman caps off a 6-point night with his 63rd goal of the season. Not sure I've ever seen an ENG like that.

From 40 years ago this month, in one of the final games played at The Olympia, what appears to be an in-house feed of some goals from a Red Wings-North Stars game.

Gordie's last NHL regular season game. Go to the 6 minute mark for Gordie's final NHL regular season goal.

2 1/2 minute ovation for Gordie's return, at the 1980 All-Star Game. Ovation starts at the 1:28 mark. Introduced as "#9", name not necessary.

In January 1992, with the Wings on their way to a regular season Norris Division title and the #1 seed in the Campbell Conference, an Yzerman hat trick helps the Wings gain a 4-4 tie with Buffalo. Yzerman's hat trick included a penalty shot goal and a last-minute goal.

One of the forgotten big goals (seemed so at the time) of Red Wings playoff history - Tim Higgin's solo effort to break a tie at the Joe with under 2 1/2 minutes left to go in regulation to send the Wings to the 1988 conference finals.
