Wow. Thanks for putting it out there. I have a lot more faith in the WINGS though. Montreal is going to deep in the East this year, I'll give you that. But I'm not ready to accept a Wing 1st round upset.:ponder:

I agree with MCS about the Wings.....Nashville just seems to be the type of team that will give them fits in the playoffs, and given the Wings difficulties in the playoffs in recent history I just can't see them going far with their lineup.

Nick Shultz or not, the Wild are beating the Avalanche. The Wild have better goaltending, stingy defense, better coaching and more depth when it comes to scorers. This is not the Avs of the glory days.

Also, Colorado is the best matchup that Minnesota wanted because I don't see the Wild beating teams with size such as Detroit, Anaheim and San Jose so I am glad the Wild won the division and got a favorable matchup.

Wild in 5.

You know what kind of series this feels like it's gonna be? One of those where the Wings outshoot the Preds 45-15 and lose 3-2.

I really hope I am wrong, but if I believe that before it happens, I may not freak out so badly when it does.

The Preds will have one strategy and that is blanket Zetterberg and Datsyuk. If they do that, the Wings could be in big, big trouble.

Hold your horses there man.....show some love & don't forget about Mr. Johan Franzen too. Guy has been playing his balls off the past month or so. Past 17 games he's scored what 15 goals, 6 of them being game winners.

The Free Press has also reported that Stuart & Draper will be ready to play in game one, so that'll definitely be a plus as well.

I'm not saying it's gunna be a cakewalk, but I don't think the Predators can hold off Zetterberg & Datsyuk for the whole series, and even if they do focus all their attention on those two, they'll end up getting burned by the rest of the team.

But I think the Wings defense is the strongest it has been in a few years, and that will lead to goals through a) their playmaking; and b) being physical enough to create openings and mistakes by Nashville.

The key to the Wings first round lays at the feet of Dan Ellis. True, he dueled Dom to OT tied at 0, but he also got demolished, and yanked in his next game. Ellis has to stand on his head to even give the Preds a shot.

Ummm...I don't think the Tigers are going to make the playoffs...oh wait! Wrong thread.

As for the red wings, I don't think I'll ever predict them to win the SC again, too many let downs.

Although Detroit-Montreal is my dream SC finals match-up, so I'll go with that. Come on Wings! Come on Habs!

Nashvilles weaknesses are Detroits times ten. They have no scoring depth with Sullivan, Legwand and Gelinas out. And thier goaltending is way more inconsistent than ours. Plus thier defense is very young and inexperienced. This isnt the Ducks, Flames or Oilers of years past. This team isnt going to upset Detroit on an improbable run to the Cup. They simply dont have the goaltending, scoring or overall depth those teams had.

The Preds only hope is to make each game as ugly as possible or that Detroit continues to play this garbage game they have for the last couple months.

Wings in 4 or 5.

Good point you make concerning Sullivan, Legwand and Gelinas out? Are they expected to be out for the whole series?

Great game at St. Paul

Avs took a 2-0 lead yet the Wild scored two unanswered goals in the third period.

Nikilas Backstrom has been shaky, but he made the saves when he has to. Nik made a big save when Ryan Symth made a penalty shot. That save has put the game into overtime.

I know the feeling. It gets numb when a team disappoints. Minnesota sports teams have disappointed so many times, and it looks like the Wild may join the list if they lose to an inferior Colorado team. At some point, it makes you wonder why watch sports or why get excited about it when you know the inevitable. I am convinced now Minnesota sports teams are cursed.

Super bump! But a bump with a purpose...

The video game NHL '08 was used to predict the results of the first round.

http://www.nhl.com/nhl/app/?service=page&page=NewsPage&articleid=359711

This is what it predicted:

(1) Detroit over (8) Nashville in 5

Series correct icon14.gif, # of games wrong

(2) San Jose over (7) Calgary in 7

Can still get series correct, number of games correct icon14.gif

(6) Colorado over (3) Minnesota in 4

Series correct icon14.gif, number of games wrong.

(5) Dallas over (5) Anaheim in 6

Exactly correct.icon14.gificon14.gif

EAST

(1) Montreal over (8) Boston in 7

Can still get series right, number of games correct. icon14.gif

(2) Pittsburgh over (7) Ottawa in 5

Series correct. icon14.gif, # of games wrong.

(6) Philiadelphia over (3) Washington in 7

Series prediction likely, number of games could be right.

(5) NY Rangers over (4) New Jersey in 7

Series correcticon14.gif, number of games wrong.

If San Jose, Philly, and Montreal all win, it will have gone 8/8 in series predictions.

So how we're doing?

Ignoring "games", for series wins I'm 5-1 going into tonight, with Dallas-Anaheim being my loss. I would need San Jose and Philly to win tonight to go 7-1 for the 1st round. I consider EatEm's, Shinma's and NHL's 5-1 records all to be stronger, since they each correctly predicted Dallas over Anaheim.
