John Candy was so good.  I cannot recall seeing a movie or show with him in it and not loving his character completely.

Because he played the character of John Candy in every movie. He was very good though. I don't remember the moment he died but I do remember when Farley died. That one really sucked.

lol  That is true of most of his big movies, but he did go off the beaten path a couple times I think.  I think there are more people like him than people realize.  To know one, meet one or have one in your life must be a HUGE blessing....and that is coming from the non religious guy.  From everything you see or hear about him, just a great, funny guy with a huge heart.  Impossible not to love/root for people like that.

I read a book about SCTV and was surprised to learn that Candy really wasn't a fan of movies....  when you say he 'played John Candy' I think that's true in a sense of a caricature but the book and his friends made the point that he was very different from his on screen persona.  He had to be talked into the wrestling scene in Stripes.  Didn't want to do it.

I am not a HUGE fan of the really flavorful beers.  Caramel, chocolate, orange, etc.  There is a fine line for me that gets crossed more than I would like to admit from some of the beers I try.  Like those 2 Oblong just mentioned...I think I would TRY a sip, but I would never drink a whole beer of that or buy it for that matter.

I am a HUGE chocolate fan also.  The KBS's...those are all fantastic, but they push the limits...I can sometimes look past the sweet flavor because of the 12+% angle.

Should you ever get the chance, these are worth a try:

Poacher is dark, chocolate style but with damson and liquorice and drinks really well.

Fly is ginger tasting.

You know those beers where it says "hints of..." or "the taste of..." and when you drink it you're searching for the taste? These are totally the opposite - biggest flavour I've ever come across in a beer.

I don't think you'll find them easily at all in the US though.

After thinking about this thread I went and looked to see if there was a biography about him.  There are 2, one about 2 years after he died then one a few years ago moreseo detailing his career with quotes from friends etc.  I think I am going to get the former.

Do they still taste like beer?  Some of the beer I have tried with friends over the past 3-4 years or so always seems to lose the beer flavor altogether.  I like the taste of beer with hints of other flavors.  Plus I need to be able to pound like 6-7 in a couple hours so it cannot be all heavy.  That 6-7 can turn into 3-4 if the alcohol content is high enough.

Yes. The ginger one is quite gingery, but it's obviously beer as well. The dark one is probably closer to guinness or something - so distinctive beer. But you know you're drinking beer and you know it tastes of something at the same time.

Actually, what's excellent and you may be able to get is an icelandic beer called Einstock. The white ale has this citrus/coriander thing going on that's very good to drink indeed. And light enough. Their website claims that Ferndale is an epicentre of it - with some in what might or might not be the Royal Oak (??) area as well. Worth a look.

Thanks.  Next time I am in the area I will see if I can find some.  I like a Guinness or 5 in the winter time.  It is such a smooth great beer.  I honestly think it hits on some old gene in my body.  I believe in that stuff.  Both sides of my family have ancestors that came from IRELAND.  I sometimes feel like I can sense some long ago ancestor sitting in some ****hole pub after a long day in a mine or something sipping on a Guinness or 3 before heading home, hopefully to NOT beat the **** out of his wife.
