Thank You, C-Mo!

My little boy will be sad when I tell him the news after work. His favorite player was Craig Monroe...probably because we share the same first name.

He's only seven, and doesn't quite understand that players get traded, sent down, etc.

Yeah, it's the worst part of being a fan. I can take the losses. I remember when Lance left the Tigers. I was a HUGE Parrish fan. I was crushed that year. Think i was maybe, 9 at the time. It kind of felt like ... the team that had won the world series was falling apart to me.

Your son will bounce back, DF. Maybe he'll become an instant fan of Mr. Maybin.

The night before Pudge's walkoff against the Indians last year' date=' Craig hit one in the eighth that brought us from one run down to one run up. That was the home run that inspired "CRAAAAAAIG DID IT AGAIN . . . HE DEEEED IT AGAIN!"

I understand this move, but just like with Maroth, I am sad he will no longer be a Tiger.[/quote']

I was at this game. It was my son's first opportunity to experience the joy of high-fiving complete strangers at a Tiger game, and for that reason this game is one of my all-time favorites.

We came back from a huge deficit to beat the Indians...earlier, Guillen hit a bomb that went just foul. Then Maggs hit a gapper that the Cleveland outfielder made an incredible play on.

Up steps Monroe. BAM! Another bomb -- also just foul.

Then...BOOM! This one wasn't foul.

Thanks, Craig.

Any speculation as to where CMO ends up? i doubt he will clear waivers. My first thought is that someone like the Nats or Pirates will claim him. Another intersting scenario is that Boston claims him and gives up on Willy Mo Pena.

Great thread.

Every time Craig came to bat these last couple months, I was really hoping he'd turn it around. Wherever he ends up, I hope he gives the fans some of the great memories he gave us (provided that it's not against the Tigers, of course).

Cmo all ready cleared waivers previously, and Wily Mo has all ready been traded to Washington. My guess is he's part of a trade for Jack Wilson, or he's traded to anyone that will take him for some PTBN.

It saddens me to know I'll never get to see Craig take another bow just like he did after making a diving catch in Game 4 of the ALDS last year. I was out in leftfield that day. Craig went deep that game too.

I'll miss you, Craig. Take one last bow.

I caught his foul home run 1 pitch before his game winner vs. Cleveland last August. We had the tape of it running on motownsports last year. That was awesome.

My ex's maiden name is Monroe. Her mother's name is Marilyn, just like Craig's mom. Anyways, when my son was 5, I was joking around with him and told him Craig was his cousin (he's not really). My son kept asking me if we could drive to Craig's house in Texas so he could meet his cousin. One day, Craig was at a store signing autographs, so I took my son there. As we got to the table, I told Craig the cousin story. He stood up, held out his hand to my son and stated loudly, "How ya doing, cuz!" My son got a kick out of that. He's gonna be sad that cousin Craig is gone.

Just saw the pena trade. Wonder if the Bosox consider themselves short in the OF since they replaced Pena with a pitcher?

If C-MO has cleared waivers and is DFA, does that mean that he is a FA if he refuses assignment to Toledo?

Great Idea for a thread. Craig deserves some appreciation for what he did last year. I know his overall numbers weren't great, but he really did have some huge hits. Good luck Craig!

According to Danny Knobler, he's already cleared waivers. He said the Tigers could have traded him yesterday if they wanted to.

For the last few years I have felt that Craig and Brandon were the guys on this team who really represented the city. Sure, Pudge and Maggs and JV have deservedly gotten the hype and fueled the turnaround, but it was Craig who I was happiest for.

When C-Mo had his incredible run of late inning heroics and Leyland talked about him like he would be an all-star before long - these are the memories I have of 2006. Without him, there would have been no opportunity for Maggs ALCS walk-off, or Kenny's postseason string of success.

I'll miss you, Craiggers. Good luck in KC (just a guess)

The homer against the Yankees was awesome. I hope Craig has a great career unless he's playing the Tigers.

I believe Pena was sent away to clear room for Bobby Kielty, another outfielder.

My favorite Craig Monroe memory was from the playoffs last year, the game where the Tigers knocked the Skankees out. Being at that game and being able to be in the crowd when he hit that bomb was a wonderful experience, one of many from that game, that I will never forget.

Sad things ended like this, Craig. I hope you can catch on with another team and get back to your old self.

My favorite Craig Monroe memory was the Grand Slam against the White Sox last year. There are a couple gems I can think of but don't recall who they came against.

I will always remember him for tying Hank Greenberg's postseason home run record.

I hope he catches on somewhere,

Not to get off track, but I cringe whenever someone talks about a modern day player and a postseason HR record. How many more HRs would Hank have hit if he'd been able to bat in an ALDS or an ALCS back in the day?

Now to get back on track, maybe this turns out to be a blessing in disguise for Monroe. A change of scenery might do him some good.
