Brian Bluhm Memorial part II - take a bow

I was liking the granite brick thing at Toledo myself. Hopefully it can get done at all the sites throughout the organization.

Ranger is in the process of moving and his presence here is going to be limited.

I don't have much time to respond but I am reading a lot while talking on the phone with the realtor, builder, mortage company, the relocation company trying to my **** straightened out.

I did call the contact I have with the Mud Hens while waiting for the realtor and left a message on his voicemail. I'm hoping to hear back from him soon.

The brick program at Toledo does indeed pay for kids to get out to ballgames. If we purchase one of the 16x16 granite bricks, which is $1000 (and, from what I saw at the stadium a couple of weeks ago, looks a ton better than the other bricks), that's $1000 worth of tickets for kids to watch games. With tickets under $10 each for Mudhens games, that'll be a lot of kids that'll get to see live baseball.
I would love to see this happen! What a great program.

Ok guys... anybody have any ideas to put forth on what exactly we want the plaque at 5/3 Ballpark, here in Grand Rapids, to say?

What's the cost?

As for the text, I'd like to include his degree after his name but I"m not sure on how it's supposed to look. Would it be:

Brian Bluhm M.S. Civil Engineering

Virginia Tech University

1981-2007

Devoted Baseball Fan

What kind of room do we have? That's just my suggestion. Please everyone, offer up an opinion, the more we get the better the chance we make it perfect.

Instead of using the money we've raised for tickets, aside from any the brick program purchases, I'd really prefer if we sent the rest for the family fund. I wouldn't be against sending money every year to a program that gets tickets for kids outside of this fundraiser. I think the Gary Vitto foundation does that. Maybe do it around his birthday. We have a lot of money and I think it would be better served if we helped send a needy kid to school to finish the work that Brian was about to embark on.

I know with the Toledo Brick, the $1,000 one we're eyeing, there seems to be a good amount of room to where I almost wonder if we could get the Va Tech logo on there...this is what it says about space for text on the Buy-A-Brick website:

Option C: $1000 contribution will buy a huge epoxy-filled, engraved granite brick.* (6 lines of 20 characters each – including spaces)

$1000 for a brick? Maybe I'm just out of the loop reguarding costs for such things.

It's granite and anyway all of the money goes toward game tickets for underpriveleged kids.

I really like the idea of providing tickets for kids who normally wouldn't be able to go. If this is only possible at the Toledo level, I think the majority of the funds should go to buying the biggest brick/plaque as possible at Toledo .

I also like the brick/plaque idea.

It should say something along the lines of:

In memory of

We miss you!

Cost and size I am still uncertain of. When I spoke to VP of the team, Jim Jarecki, on Wednesday, he said he would make some calls to engravers so he could get both a size and price, and then he'd call me back with the info.

If I don't hear back by Monday, I'll give him a followup call on Tuesday.

I'd put his name on top.

I thought about that, but having ESTREPE1 at the top would make it easier to find among the other pavers I think. It doesn't really matter to me though. Plus that's how 99% of us here knew him as.

That makes sense. On one hand he was Brian before he was estrepe but on the other hand, since it's a MotownSports plaque, he was estrepe before Brian to us.

Exactly. I think his user name here is the most important part of the memorial.
