Its been three years or so since you've passed, and I never knew you, never have read any of your posts, though you seem to have made so many. I couldnt help but shed a tear after reading this.. You and I would have been good friends, I wish that someday we will meet under the light of god, and watching some tigers baseball together! R.I.P., friend.

I just spent the last couple of hours reviewing Feb. and March of 2007 in the photo threads. I had not realized how often Brian and I communicated that Spring. He was posting the online photos while I was posting mine. At first I thought he was in Lakeland and reporting. I have been in a funk all afternoon worrying about Dennis Dubay and this has raised my spirits a lot. And then Team Mom walks in with two Granderson bobbleheads for me to send to Brian's parents and his sister. Talk about timing.

I've had a few people in the last 2 weeks ask me about my wristband, & I've had a chance to share with them what a great guy Brian was, as well as our little community here. Helped me remember to appreciate you morons.

Good morning, everyone! I have a little request of you all. Not to bring up painful memories, but I was curious if someone could help me understand how Brian came to like Curtis Granderson. The reason I bring this up is ESPN may or may not be doing a piece involving Brian's relationship with Curtis, and I want to make sure I have my facts straight. I remember when he got his jersey and him talking a little about him. But I'm wondering how he chose him over, say, someone like Justin Verlander or Brandon Inge or another homegrown player.

I know Brian studied statistics like crazy...I've seen the files on his old laptop. I know he was impressed by Curtis' off-the-field work as much as his on-the-field work. I know he knew that other players in the organization had more upside than Grandy did, but still Curtis' was his player. Did Brian have Curtis as an AAT?

I really appreciate any and all help that you can give! If anything, this will at least give us (the Bluhms and myself) a part of Brian that we were only superficially aware.

I'll do some digging - for starters here's what Grandy had to say:

DETNEWS | WebAudio | The Tigers' Curtis Granderson on the incident at Virginia Tech and his No. 1 fan, Brian Bluhm, who was killed

A 2006 post: http://www.motownsports.com/forums/935228-post7.html

Another good '06 post: http://www.motownsports.com/forums/956969-post11.html

In 2006, Brian adopted Curtis in the AAT Draft: http://www.motownsports.com/forums/detroit-tigers/24722-official-adopt-tiger-draft-order-selection-page.html - and we kept Curtis as Brian's AAT in 2008 and 2009

And this one, just days before Brian walked on to join the immortals: http://www.motownsports.com/forums/1070026-post18.html

And, I'm spent. Hope this helps Justin!

I'm sure more than Justin thanks you. I know I do. I have no explanation why it still hurts to remember.

Thanks, Andy! This definitely helps!

I guess I just wasn't sure how far back he started following him. He was drafted in 2002, so is it possible he started as early as then?

Question--I should be a VIP member anyway (shame on me), but what access would I have to archived posts of his?

When I look at his profile and use the "View all posts" feature, it looks like I'm only able to go back to early 2007. Not sure if Mods/Admins have more access, though.

Thanks, Matt. I'll harrass one of these guys (maybe even MWG) to see what we can find.

Happy Opening Day, Brian! I'm sure you and I would be finding some way to chat and jab at each other since it's Tigers-Yankees today. Miss you, bro!

My pleasure. Brian definitely followed minor league prospects closely so I'm sure that Grandy was on his radar immediately, being a high draft pick and all.

Justin somehow I created a search of threads where Brian and I discussed the minors. I found we had exchanged more often than I recalled. You can go to the Detroit Forum or any of the others and click on last page. For the Tiger's Forum, that will take you back to 2002. I know there is a more selective way, I just can't remember how.

Can't believe it's been four years.

Brian, you are still missed and will always be remembered.

"I don't believe a manager ever won a pennant. Casey Stengel won all those pennants with the Yankees. How many did he win with the Boston Braves and Mets? I've never seen a team win a pennant without players. I think the only thing the manager has to do is keep things within certain boundaries."

I'm in Toledo this weekend, so I made a trip over to 5/3 to spend a few moments at Brian's memorial brick.
