It sounds more like their first album, is it the whole thing, or just what they have released so far?

The Linkin Park that I am listening to is 12 tracks, is that the whole album?

A total freakin classic.

I know they just got put in the HOF, but I think the Beasties are one of the most underrated groups. multiple decades of groundbreaking material, all of it cool as hell. What more can you want?

I agree with this and with MCS saying we're old. I was shocked to hear it had been 25 years.

Some old Neal Morse concert on dvd that has Mike Portnoy on drums and that guitarist from the Flower Kings (forget his name). One of my husband's favorites. Eh ... doesn't stink but not my kind of thing. Plus, something I just don't really like about Neal Morse.

I don't think that would be my kind of thing either. I used to like that stuff but it just doesn't do much for me anymore

The new Jenny Lewis album - really good. Again. I never thought the singer from Rilo Kiley would end up being such a great singer/songwriter.

And Biff - I must give you credit. I thought there was a bug on my monitor, then I thought there was a bug IN my monitor (happens from time to time) and then I scrolled and your little bug avatar went with it. Pretty funny. Ya got me.

If you haven't listened to an artist named Jason Isbell and his album "Southeastern" you ought to give it a full listen through. This is not an album for kids, it is not an album that deals with the happier side of life. This album is deep, dark, at times depressing as hell but always managing to be insightful. It is a tremendous piece of art and storytelling with real life characters, dealing with their own unique problems. With the passing of Robin Williams, a man who seemingly battled many of his own inner problems, I took a listen back through this album. The track here is titled Elephant. If you've got kids give it a listen when they're not around. Jason Isbell is one of the great storytellers of the modern era and this song is a clear reflection of his talent.

Finally got around to listening to Common- "Nobody's Smiling"

Another strong release from Common, couldn't be more relevant with what Chicago is facing.

I make it a small mission of mine, from time to time, to promote good, quality, country music to my friends/family/people on the net. Today's "country" music, the dreck that is played on FM, has enough exposure behind it to promote it to the masses. The world doesn't need to hear the same, trite, boring songs re-worked 100x from the likes of Luke Bryan, Florida-Georgia Line or Blake Shelton. I'm in the business of showcasing good, authentic country music built around raw storytelling and deep, emotive characters. This is the stuff you don't hear or read about in the mainstream. In 2013-2014 there have been no shortages of authentic country albums getting released. I've got 10 albums/artists worth checking out below. Pandora, Spotify, iTunes, YouTube, whatever your source, click play and listen.

I'm starting to really gear up for Detroit Jazz Fest 2014. Last year's fest basically had me listening to jazz for an entire year. One of my favorite weekends of the year.

Currently listening to: Randy Weston and His African Rhythms Sextet - The Storyteller

Weston is one of many great artists at the fest this year.

Rosanne has the eye for selecting great songs from writers, just as her dad did. Her style is markedly different from his, but she still finds the best songs to cut.

Biff, I'd really recommend clicking on the Jason Isbell song "Cover Me Up". It's a rough edged song but won't disappoint. Completely different type of song then the Rosanne Cash song you listened to.

Good voice but not my thing. I rarely venture into country other than Johnny Cash.

I say I am not a big country fan, but I am not a fan of is the crap that is played on the radio and this whole attitude that people that play and perform country music (the musicians and the radio djs too) have to have certain political leanings to be true "country".

But there are some really good country artists like the ones on your list, and they don't get played on corporate country radio - and most of them probably wouldn't want to.

Roseanne Cash is an example of a country artist that I really like and have a ton of respect for. Can't be easy being the child of a legend, she's handled it well. She almost died a few years ago, you know.

Johnny Cash was country with a rock mindset. And still has the greatest musician photo of all time.
