The Pet Peeve Thread

Recommended Posts

A few more:

-- Dovetailing from the last peeve, I really hate it when a clerk fails to say "thank you" after ringing up my purchase. Now, I don't expect a store employee to lick my shoes because I chose to shop there -- but a simple "thank-you" is basic courtesy. Whenever this happens, and a clerk fails to thank me, when the transaction is complete I always say, "you're welcome, have a nice day, and thank you for allowing me to shop here." I've gotten a lot of funny looks doing that. One lady took offense. Well, you know what? Screw her!

I would expand this a bit. Just the general lack of manners is incredible. To flip your story around a bit would it kill people to thank a waiter when they refill a drink or bring out the food?

Lack of manners is a huge pet peeve of mine.

I hate it when people say "Huh??!???" We refer to it as Honking because they sound like a couple of ducks. We were at a game discussing it while in the beer line. When we got to the beer lady my friend asked her a question and she Honked back at him. We could not contain our laughter.

Lack of manners is a huge pet peeve of mine.

The other day while in a gas station a clerk (the manager) told me "You have to cancel that and reswipe it". I said "Actually it's 'Could you please cancel that and reswipe your card?'. As a customer I deserve a modicum of respect Miss Manners". She didn't say anything and her co-worker seemed pleased that I corrected her boss.

My biggest pet peeve is a work related one.

Everything I do at work, is available online within seconds of me doing it. YET, i still get phone calls from the "big wigs" of "Did you get to this yet, I need it" ... welll, if I DID, it would be in there already. Then they will retort "I don't see it" ... THEN IT isn't done yet. Don't call and bother me, if you want it done. IT WILL get done, I promise you that.

Maybe I have issues with management. I don't know. It's just aggravating. Makes me feel like I'm not doing my job, or they are just trying to flex their muscles or something.

A FRICKING MEN.

Or how about this. Management says production is down, we need to step it up. Best way to do that? A MEETING? OhhhhhK.

I have a guy who will email me and then immediately write it all down on a post-it note, walk downstairs, and post it on my monitor. This occurs 3 or 4 times a week.

Some people still refuse to trust the internet/email ... and I can understand that.. but when your job is 99% internet/email .. ya gotta get past it, man!

Wow. I'd have to kill that dude at the first opportunity. Our workplace is nothing like that!

Ugh. Sorry about the blowup guys. I was just in a grumpy mood and I should not have done this publicly.
Yoda, no worries. I've blown up here about 3 times this week, and had to delete the most offensive one. We're all allowed to have a bad day, right? I also apologize for my weirdness this week, had a lot of stresses of late I guess.

Hate to get all mushy on you, but I respect you and your contributions to this site to a very high degree. Your occasional crankiness is actually endearing at times.

Not meant for you Yoda, but I hope if I get out of line again this winter, folks will feel free to PM me directly, and tell me to knock the **** off. I'm in a pretty receptive mood for criticism (most days). :classic:

Dennis and Yooper... I always get you guys mixed up. Just thought I'd share that. If I ever get smart with one of you blame the other one because it's probably directed at him.

At my current job I've sort of become the person in charge of all incoming/outgoing shipments. One of my biggest pet peeves on the job is when people leave a package on my desk that needs to be shipped- without any info about where it needs to go, how they want it shipped, and who is trying to ship it.

The next biggest pet peeve with that aspect of the job is when people order something, but don't have it shipped with their name on the package. Yeah, like I'm supposed to just know who in the world ordered a box of sticky notes.

USE IT!

Man, this reminds me of something I saw the other night.

My better half and I were on our way to a hockey game and the weather sucked. The roads were very wet as it had been raining for 2 days and it was still coming down. It was around 6:15 as well so it was nice and dark. As I am driving down the highway, I come up on an old beat up pick up going about 45 in the left lane. I see the guy with his arm out the window and wonder aloud "what the hell?"

He had a windshield wiper in his hand and was clearing the windshield as he was driving. Of all the nights to forget my camera. I laughed for a good 5 minutes.

I then proceeded to get in front of him for about 30 seconds to make him work a little.

It's easy to differentiate us. I'm the dashingly handsome one.

People complaining its cold when its 60 degrees in Texas. Seriously they dress for the arctic and its 60 degrees.

QFT.

I was out golfing in a short sleeve shirt and shorts 2 days ago. I wouldn't try that today, but it's still not cold.

Question is, though... where are you originally from? Cold weather area or warm area weather?

I'm from Michigan, lived in Florida for about six months. The folks I lived with got cold at 60, I was in heaven!

This is the first time I've ever felt compelled to use "LOL".
