10-06-06 Tigers vs. Yankees--ALDS Game #3

Recommended Posts

We're off down the two-lane macadam of Lapeer County and into the hard streets of Motown, where we intend to watch Tigers claw Yankees until they bleed blue blood.

Go get 'em, boys! No mercy......

A poem, written by a family member:

The sun rose nonchalantly

sipping rain from New YorkVille.

Yankee Stadium was empty

but the beer kegs were all full.

New York fans strutted to the field--

Tiger fur lay on the ground.

Their arrogance proclaimed

the Yankees : “best team all around”.

The fans filled up their beer cups

TV anchors had no clue

that the Tigers were no ***** cats,

they knew what they could do.

Verlander mixed his pitches

stopped them cold with men on base.

And now the score was 4 to 3

The Bengals in first place.

The Pinstripe power stood on deck

their fans began to swarm

smelling blood……

They hadn’t met Zumaya’s tattooed arm!!

One by one the Yankee’s best

bulged muscles at the plate.

Zumaya, fearless rookie, snarled,

prepared to deal their fate.

103 mile fast ball

plus a curve to fool their pride

they swung , they missed

and shook their heads

completely out of stride.

The sun threw shadows

The crowd sweat beer…they thought they’d have a rout.

But one by one

those “Mighty Yankees” swung

and all struck out!!!

The fans went home sobered up

to- the click of subway rails.

The sun has set and now they know

They’ve a TIGER by the tail!!!

I'm off to my first playoff game since I sat in the bleachers and watched the Twins celebrate on that Monday afternoon.

Nice of Leyland to reward Thames for yesterday's game. He may have done that anyhow but I'm sure yesterday's performance made the decision easier.

I guess if he were going to have 30 at bats against Rogers tonight, then I might consider it. Still, Bernie today is not Career Bernie.

I'm still willing to bet that they haven't had nearly enough at bats to make those numbers mean anything. Additonally, in 5 at bats tonight, those numbers aren't going to mean a thing. Bernie Williams is a borderline member of the team, and Sheff is terrifying.

I just asked the Placido Polanco Bobblehead on my desk if the Tigers would win tonight, he emphatically said yes. Then he grew tired and stopped shaking his head. Now he waits for the game to begin.

I don't know what is going to happen. But I am excited to find out either way.

Whatever happens I will be cheering them on.

Go Tigers and Go Kenny Rogers!!

Gotta watch out for Alex Rodriguez. If he gets hot in this game its going to be tough to stop.

Rogers hasn't faced the Yankees this year yet I saw. Rogers is having a great year and this year has been special for the entire team of Detroit. Time to get Kenny his first postseason win of his career.

It would be hilarious if Arod goes 4-4 with no rbi's and the rest of the yankees only muster 3 other hits... course according to the NY media that will be arod's fault that the rest of the team didn't come through.

Biff is supposed to be holding a big sign that looks like my avatar. Be sure to look for her.

Bernie is a clutch play-off guy though - Sheff is scary as hell at the bat, but I'd still grade it a wash given the time of year and Sheff not being completely healthy.

Rogers is a vetran, savvy, calm and taught the young pups on the pitching staff all year. AND he can field. The young guys on the staff will pump Rogers up and not allow him to fail after the year the Tigers are having.
