2006 AMATEUR DRAFT DIARY

Recommended Posts

Didn't know where to put this but the Tigers have now signed RPH Nickerson, RPH Gagnier and Catcher Casanova according to today's Tigers Press Pass on mlb.com. All 3 players were in the College World Series, with Nickerson as MOP (most oustanding player)

So I'm still happy with Miller, but it's pretty remarkable how poorly our next handful of picks has done. Bourquin and Newton are both at EST, which seems pretty incredible to me for college guys drafted that highly. Boesch looks like a dud, and Sizemore, who looked like a bargain last season, isn't hitting at all. Strieby seems to be making up for last season a bit…hopefully he puts together a solid season and becomes a prospect.

Guys like Cody and Below in the later rounds definitely help redeem those problems to some extent, but it's disappointing to see so little production from the round 2-6 guys so far. It'll be interesting to see if the strategy changes a little in the upcoming draft.

Looking through this again...What a great thread. There are a lot of great features of this board, but I think they pale in comparison to sorting through the second by second minutia that is the MLB draft. It's going to be massively depressing doing it again without e, though.

I thought I would look back on the 2006 draft. I quickly scanned this thread and it makes for some interesting reading.

Miller We got C & W- Who knows how Miller will do

Borquin Looks like a wasted pick

Boesch Like almost everyone on this list, I wish he were younger

Strieby Good blossom but behind Larish

Sizemore I think 2008 will break out year

Newton Doubt he'll ever see the Big Apple

Jonah Nickerson His 116/38 could mean something

Cody Traded to the Buffalo Bills?

Piccola Makes your throat sore

Gagnier Needs to have a good 2008

Parrott Looks good in the cage (batting)

Joe Brown Liked his baseball comedy movies in the 30s

Castro Had visa problems but credit him for a good 2007

Jensen Kyra Sedwick is his favorite actress

Gerbe Fast rising, pitch and career

Scram Won't be leaving baseball anytime soon

Below Above average

Fien Likes friendly competition

21-50 A few still survive but likely gone by 2009

Well, after seeing Hochevar dropped in my fantasy league, I wanted to go back and check this thread. It's too bad Brian's not around so I could give him a hard time about some of his pre-draft preferences...

Brett Anderson, LHP, Stillwater HS is still on the board. Clay is a nice project pick for the Red .Sox

This is why he gets the big money, man.

Yup. For having grammatical typos in my posts. That's why I get the big bucks.
