possible change in Tigers logo coming?

Recommended Posts

check this out on ESPN. The Tigers marketing dept, headed by Ron Wade, is trying to bring back the old bat swinging kitty logo the tigers used to have a long time ago. That looks pretty cool I think and didn't the current tigers logo come out in 1994 the year the tigers starting the losing streaks? I say on this subject, change IS good.

here is the article on espn

and here is the swiging cat logo they are trying to bring back.

I believe I still have an old tee shirt with the bat swinging tiger on it. Looks a little like the Kellogg "Tony the Tiger."

I now go to start digging through old clothes that I just cannot seem to throw out.

I like the plain, ordinary Olde English D. The throwback cat is okay..but the modern one with the Tiger woven through the D is horrible. Hard for me to believe that's a major league logo.

I like the throwback more than the modern one too.

Nothing like bringing back the lopsided Tiger Logo. That thing is a joke.

BTW, this will not replace any logos they are just bringing it back.

Wasn't there also a pitcher tiger as well.

I wouldn't mind going back to

I agree. That's the best logo I can remember. Definately better than the current logo which looks like a tiger behind bars.

I agree with the bear logo. The kitty can be a mascot prototype or something, but the circular logo is where it's at.

still, I grew up on the tiger coming through the D, so that's all I really know.

Does anyone remember after each televised game, they used to play the animated tiger roaring or whimpering? I thought that was pretty cool. Kinda off subject but oh well.

That was pretty cool! I was just thinking of that. When they lost I think the tiger had a band-aid on its head or something. Ah... Fond old memory..

Yeah, that was awesome. They really should bring back that logo and animation.

The '68 (I think) "Go Get 'em Tigers" song that they play in CoPa after some victories was great to bring back as well.

The roaring is a bit too MGM lion for me, but I love the way it grabs the bat. Knowing baseball marketing today, they'd probably try to revive it with snazzy new style animation and it would look like wank.

the kitty actually came in a pose for just about every position. if you look back in some of the old programs and yearbooks, you can see him as a shortstop, swinging the bat and pitching.

as for the "bear" tiger, someone redid it a year or 2 ago and had it posted here with the new tiger head and updated lettering. it modified it, but kept the old "flavor". i have a copy of it, but i don't know how to post pictures (technologically retarted :dead: ).

To post an image, you first need to host it online (may I suggest Photobucket). Then you take the hosted image, throw some %7Boption%7D tags around the URL (or in the case of Photobucket just copy the link with the tags already added in), and then paste it in your post.

Speaking of logo's and such... Is it me or is the 'Tiger growl" they play at the CoPa after the tigers score a run the same as the Penn State nittney Lion sound they use when they score.
