Derek Lowe, a converted closer, pitched the first no-hitter of the 2002 season on Saturday in a 10-0 victory over the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. It was the first no-hitter at Fenway Park since 1965, and the first Red Sox no-hitter since Hideo Nomo stymied the Orioles last season. Lowe struck out six and walked just one.

Local boy does good! I played against Lowe for 4 years in high school but don't remember him. I only knew about him once he got drafted and figured out he was the shortstop.

I've got a story about him involving peanut butter and a dog. It was told to me by 3 different people from different social groups. Could be an urban legend of course but.....
