The Pudge Factor

Recommended Posts

As for future improvement? “We want anything we can get,” Rodriguez said. “But this is a good start. This is a new Detroit Tigers team. It’s going to be a very interesting off-season. If they want me to speak to players, I’d be more than happy to do it.

Okay -- it's not that I think they'll really need to ASK HIM...deep down, I think he wants to be part of this process.

Reason #1 -- why I love the PUDGE!

Pudge also said, “I’m going to be here three more years, so I’d like to see a superstar here to be part of my team. As long as we bring in some new faces, we’re going to be fine.”

Playoffs, yada, yada, yada... Lets BRING ON the OFF SEASON, baby!!

Any thoughts on who PUDGE could have in mind?

Maybe Carl Pavano as well...don't forget Pudge was his battery mate last year and we all saw what that influence did to bring Ugie here late last offseason. :classic:

I really like Pavano. With Beckett, Burnett, and Penny (until L.A. got him) in Florida, Pavano got lost in the shuffle. But I think Pavano is more consistent than those other guys and would be a nice pick up.

Hopefully he will be overcome with a love for Pudge like Urbina and sign with the Tigers!

I would LOVE Carl Pavano to sign with the Tigers. That would be a better option than Derek Lowe IMO.

Pudge has a big influence in the MLB, or at least I think he does. This would be great if he can help bring a star free agent to Detroit.

Does boston re-sign Pedro, or use his earmarked money and aquire a younger #2 behind Schilling and use the rest of the money to fill other holes?

I know, I know, I'm Mr. Obdvious on that one.

I work with a HUGE Red Sox fan who, besides saying he thinks that no matter what happens with us getting another free agent starter...Lowe is coming to Detroit, one way or another... Anyway -- he says that he's under the understanding that this is Pedro's last year in Boston...if they do not win. He said, if they win -- that might change.

He also said that they're arleady targeting both Matt Clement and Carl Pavano.

COMING ATTRACTION? Florida right-hander Carl Pavano, a pending free agent, said recently that he aspires to join a team that plays in a pitcher's park, has a solid defense and plays in the National League. For now, the Tigers go 1-for-3 on Pavano's criteria. But Pavano liked having Ivan Rodriguez as his catcher in 2003. "I would love to see him here next year, but that's not my decision," Rodriguez said. "He's a hell of a pitcher."

That's too bad. I know Pavano might have liked Pudge but I don't see him coming to Detroit if he likes Pudge. Out of the three factors Pavano looks for the Tigers have 1 that's not good.

I would say so. We could just switch all of our players with the Yankees. We'd be in real good shape then.

Who has all three, TM79?

Well there are fifteen teams in the NL that are even with Detroit right out of the box and that is not even looking at their ballparks and defence.

I was going to mention them. I am sure a lot depends on Beltre though. San Diego might not be a bad choice either.
