Rumors flying about Harrington....

Recommended Posts

I don't see why, but rumors are flying around ESPN.com that the Lions have "fallen in love" with Joey Harrington, and will either select him at #3, or the Lions will trade down with Dallas at #6, and the Lions will select him there. If the Lions want Harrington, then there's a strong possibility that the Lions would draft Jammer at three, then wait until 6 comes up, then make the trade with the Cowboys, keeping other teams (KC, Wash) from trading with the Bills and Chargers at 4 and 5. I don't see this happening unless the Lions take the Cowboys to the bank, getting their 2d and 3d rounders.

Still I am not impressed with Harrington so much to take him in the first 3. I've heard a couple NFL draft experts today reiterate what I was already feeling for myself. They say Harrington's nice, but he's not worthy of the #3 pick. Also, one guy today on a talk show asked a draft expert to compare Peyton Manning and Joey Harrington, and the guy quickly said there is no comparison. He said he is more along the lines of a Tom Brady (Who yes, did win the Super Bowl, but didn't look like a #3 pick in the draft doing it). My point is, if we were a piece or two away from contending, maybe he'd be a pick there (I still wouldn't). But we're WAY far from that point, so I would do something else. Listen, we have the #3 PICK IN THE DRAFT! Be creative M&M, package something, do something where we can get multiple picks. Speaking of Manning, WAIT TIL HIS BRO COMES OUT! HE'S GONNA BE BETTER THAN PEYTON!! TRUST ME ON THIS!!

EwE, I'm sure that if Millen has the opportunity to trade down, he will. But most experts have said that there are far more teams looking to trade down than up.

Peyton Manning is an excellent QB, but I think his reputation is still fueled more by his college exploits than anything he's accomplished in the pros. His teams haven't done anything in the playoffs, and he was giving games away last season with a pick-six in crucial situations. I guess I'm not as enamored with him as everyone else.

I like Harrington a lot, and I was wholeheartedly in favor of drafting him, but cornerback is simply a greater need for the Lions right now, and Jammer has the potential to be great. I guess I'm to the point in my thinking where I'll be equally happy with either of the guys mentioned.

If the Lions pass on Harrington, they could possibly look into Jeff Blake as a stopgap guy if they feel McMahon isn't ready to assume control of the offense.

If the Lions draft Harrington, then they have "something up their sleeve"; such as a Donnie Abraham, which would only be a possibility if the Lions are able to redo several contracts, including Stewart and Elliss, although both of them had seemed cool to that idea.

The Lions are in the best position possible right now, since the Carolina Panthers have told Julius Peppers that they will draft him. They won't sign him before the draft, but that gives the Lions plenty of leverage going into tomorrow morning. Usually teams get 15 minutes on the clock in the 1st round, the Lions now have 15 hours.

That is good news cruzer. If it is true then maybe they do work out a trade with dallas . Dallas then takes jammer, we get a couple of extra early picks from dallas and we end up with Williams.

My gut tells me they will pick herrington, I would rather have Jammer though. Should be an interesting sat morning

From what Mel Kuiper said last night, Morningweg is enamored with Harrington, while Millen isn't so much. He also pointed out that Millen wasn't all that crazy about Jammer either. I think we may be trading down, getting an extra pick somewhere. I agree about getting a Jeff Blake as a stopgap. I think McMahon is the real deal, and the people that say he can't be an NFL QB based on half a season need to get a reality check. The guy has the tools obviously, he just needs time.
