Dimitri hits for the cycle

Recommended Posts

In his rehab start tonight in Toledo he went 3-4 with a single, double and a 3 run homer. He's suppose to be up on Monday and is suppose to DH until Interleague play.

Tonight for Toledo.

I think it's about time he comes back to Detroit!:classic:

They said he needed a triple in his last at bat and got it. I guess that leg is fine.

As Rod said, I think Mr. I should send a plane over to Rochester New York to get him!

Why not the Wings are not using it. It'll be nice to see him play next week.

(Saturday, May 29th)

Final Score: Toledo 14, Rochester 5

Rochester, NY (Sports Network) - Dmitri Young hit for the cycle in his first start on major league rehab for the Detroit Tigers to help the Toledo Mud Hens pound the Rochester Red Wings, 14-5 on Saturday.

Young hit a three-run home run in the top of the first inning to give the Mud Hens an early 3-0 lead.

The designated hitter singled in the fourth, doubled in the sixth and smashed an RBI triple to left field in the eighth. Young also forced in a run by drawing a bases loaded walk in the ninth to finish the game with five RBI.

Brant Ust chipped in with three hits, three runs batted in and two runs scored to raise his average to .321.

Andy Barkett belted his ninth home run of the season, a solo shot in the ninth inning.

Joe Mauer was in the Rochester line-up on a rehab start for the Minnesota Twins. The catcher finished the game 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

Michael Restovich hit his twelfth home run of the season for the Red Wings.

Andy Van Hekken (4-2) earned the win for the Mud Hens. Van Hekken allowed four runs, three earned, on seven hits in five innings of work.

Toledo forced Pete Munro to the showers after three innings. Munro was touched up for eight runs, seven earned, on eight hits and suffered the loss.

Rochester (26-23) will host Toledo (25-25) again on Sunday at 6:05 PM (ET).tiger.gif

I was in Rochester tonight, great game. I sat behind the Hens dugout so I could get a good look at everyone and get some pictures. When Dmitri hit the home run, he came back in the dugout yelling "I'm READY, I'm READY!" Of course hardly anyone in the stands knew what he meant (I heard "This guy must have just been brought up from double a, he's hitting 1.000" too many times). In his fifth at bat I knew he had to hit the triple and I knew he had it when the left fielder dove. He made it around the bases very good. I stood and applauded his accomplishment, he noticed my Tiger gear and pointed at me. He's definately ready to go...

The question now is which player is removed from the roster to make room for Young? My guess is it will be Norton. Shelton is back in the lineup as the DH today and if they were going to send him back to Pittsburgh he wouldn't be playing. The only 2B/SS backup they have is Smith (unless one considers Inge in that role but he hasn't been so far). So I think Norton is goner. Maybe he'll not be cut though but come down with an "injury" and go on the DL.

It should be Norton and I think it will. Trammell's infatuation with Norton appears to be coming to an end. He hasn't been playing as much lately.

I think Rod Allen hit it dead on that today is an audition day for the three Tigers "on the bubble". I do agree with the consensus that Norton will be the odd man out, as the Tigers for the time being have no backup middle infielder, so Smith stays, and Shelton is doing too well to send back to the Pirates.

If Trammell/Dombrowski were basing the decision on today's game, then they are in big trouble. It should already be clear to them that Norton is the only logical choice. I believe they will waive Norton and that nobody will claim him.

Actually Rod followed up his statement that he feels it's been audition time for those players for the last week or so. I fully agree that Norton should be the one to go, but I disagree with Rod that Tram and DD were auditioning them today. Rod did also admit that it was his assumption and didn't base that opinion on fact. I do like the job that Shelton is doing so far, and I thought Smith should have made the team in the first place when they headed north, and I felt they should have cut Norton. Norton may have been a premiere PH in the NL but those days are over. He's useless in that capacity as well.
