trade rumors????

Recommended Posts

I was just listening to 1130 and they stated that the New England and Buffalo trade involving Drew Bledsoe is still alive and looks like it will happen tomorrow on draft day. It is rumored that the Bills are giving up a 2nd round draft pick for him.

Wouldn't this be a great move for the Lions?? Bledsoe would be a great addition even for his price. We could keep him a couple of years and let McMahon work with him. They stated how the success of Tom Brady was helped greatly by Bledsoe! I'm not sure if it would be a good fit and if it would be worth the pick and the money, but I wouldn't mind seeing him in a Lions uniform!

The success of Tom Brady was NOT because of Bledsoe. His success was because of his talent, And the system. Bledsoe is not a good quarterback for the West Coast offense. Ever watched him play. He drops back 3 yards and if his primary reciever is not open he falls and takes a sack. Thats why Brady kept the job all season even after Bledsoe came back from injury.

I still argue that they should have went out and signed Trent Dilfer. But they screwed that up. They wont draft Hairington this year so it looks like McMahon is the guy. I hope he turns into everything that Millin&Marty wants him too but I am worried. Look at the bright side if he does not then next year at the draft we can look forward to one of 4 young stud quarterbacks.Byron Leftwich from Marshall, Dave Ragone from Louisville, Eli Manning from Ol'Miss, or Rex Grossman from Florida.

Bledsoe's too old and too expensive. The Lions need to go young and cheap, especially at QB right now. That gives them a huge advantage salary cap wise.

I think I would rather cut Batch and swollow Bledsoe's contract for 2 years while McMahon develops. The difference wouldn't kill us against our salary cap until 2005 when Bledsoe moves into a higher salary bracket, I think?? Of course if Bledsoe doesn't fit into our system, it wouldn't be worth it. I'm not sure if giving up a 2nd round pick would also be worth it. This guy is still a very good QB and probably has at least 2-3 years of near prime football left in him!

The Lions would have to cut about half their team just to make the cap room for Bledsoe, who comes with his own question marks. The Lions probably never even mentioned his name seriously in a meeting.

Would the difference between Bledsoe's salary and Batch's salary be that substantial??? I know the biggest meat of Bledsoe's contract starts in either 2004 or 2005. I think we might be surprised by how affordable he really is! Of course, I could be waaayyyyy off!

But it wouldn't matter anyway...The Patriots turned down the latest Bills offer...they are asking way to much for Bledsoe! Here is the link : http://msn.espn.go.com/nfl/news/2002/0419/1371048.html

The fact is that the Lions will be "eating" Batch's salary next year. The signing bonus remaining on his long contract (and Herman Moore's), will be divided between this and next year. Most (at least $8 million) will be taken off next year's cap.
