Kruk makes Baseball Tonight unwatchable

Recommended Posts

This guy is clueless. It's one thing to have unique opinions. It's another to be stupid, fat, and arrogant and think you're the sh*t.

I just heard him say that if the season ended today, Jarod Washburn, he of the 4.68 ERA, should get the AL Cy Young award above Schilling and Brown because "he just wins." Getting the win is all that matters and unlike the others, apparently, and Kruk said Washburn "gives his team a chance to win every game."

He also praised Red's OF Ryan Freel for diving headlong into the stands at Dodger Stadium for an uncatchable ball. The ball landed 10 feet back in the stands and Freel's flailing knee caught an elderly woman right in the face. Kruk said that sort of "aggressiveness" is what makes Freel a major leaguer and not a AA player. Karl Ravech offered the idea that perhaps risking life and limb on an impossible play without regard for yourself or fans will actually put you on the fast track to the DL, to which Kruk just stupidly scoffed and said he was proud of Freel's play.

You can tell by watching BT this year that Ravech, and even Harold Reynolds, are pretty embarassed by Kruk's antics on the show. It's pretty uncomfortable watching Ravech squirm as Kruk makes an *** out of himself and the show.

I was just watching the BT that was on about an hour ago and was thinking the exact same thing. The guy is painful to watch and brings no insight. Dude has been on for a couple years now and still mumbles and staggers most of the time he talks. Why the hell must he make at least 10 self-depricating fat jokes a show. It gets damn tiring after the first few.

This would fit in really nicely on your awful cliche thread.

I got on here to make the same post about Kruk's comments regarding Washburn. Hell, I guess it doesn't matter that Washburn is getting 10+ runs of support per game does it John?

He sounds like a Cy Young award voter. You just know Russ Ortiz would have won the award last year if Eric Gagne didn't have a season for the ages.

There was a time when I thought he had slipped out of that "mullitude" that those Phillies reeked of. Don't get me wrong, they had a great season, but Kruk has never struck me as a guy that had "baseball smarts" if you know what I mean. Oh well, he will be gone very soon and maybe they will have someone on that knows baseball, not smartazz comments.

While I agree that Kruk, in general, is deplorable.....this statement is in fact true. Freel's reckless style of play, while not condusive to a long career or the safety of the fans, is the reason he is in the major leagues. His skill set is not such that he can rely on it to get him there....he has to go all out, all the time to keep his job.

As for the remainder of Kruk's comments and attitude....I have no explanation...he should be gone....

In fairness to Kruk, take away the fat jokes and he basically says the same things that Joe Morgan says on a constant basis.

And I would classify Joe Morgan as just as big an idiot.....

In the 9th inning of last nights game, Ponson is going for the shutout with two outs and Guillen at the plate. Guillen fouls off a slider, that Morgan was describing as a great pitch that started in the middle of the plate and dove down and away from Guillen....the replay came up as he was saying this, showing a hanging slider that had no movement on it at all....Guillen just missed it.....Oops....

The fact that we all think Kruk is an idiot and are talking about him is exactly how he keeps his job. That's entertainment. I rarely watch Baseball Tonight anymore.

I don't watch it either. I get all my news and info and maybe a highlight or two from the computer because I can't stand some sport commentators and analysts they over analyze stuff.

Watching Baseball Tonight is about as frustrating as reading this board as times. I'd say this bored trumps it at times.

Nothing that I see or hear on ESPN can be taken seriously by this old man. Gammons would make a good running mate for John Kerry, as they both change opinions and their stands almost constantly. I get sick of Joe Morgan potificating as though his audience is made up of pre-teen girls watching their first baseball game.

In fact, I dislike the styles of most of the guys who do the color for baseball on TV and radio. Rod Allen is a dope. Ron Santo is the master of lame comments.

I do like Steve Stone because he sounds like he is talking to baseball fans and he is not constantly second-guessing players and managers, nor does he flaunt his knowledge of the game.

Well, you got the blah blah blah part right...assuming blah blah blah = player with underrated tools, that was consistently one of the more productive players in his league, all at an age that was consistently young for his league. That's what you meant right???

Scouring through the numbers of both Ross and Freel - they're not even somewhat similar, either in terms of production, or rate of professional ascension - So I'm starting to think...that may not have been what your blah blah blah was referring to....

Last night Reynolds was going over signs...totally stumping Kruk, who apparently was always too dumb to remember the signs.

I hate to give Kruk and help here....but Reynolds was absolutely one of the worst I have seen at giving signs...he was awful. I'd wager that half the major leaguers would miss his signs....it was ugly!!!

Baseball Tonight is a good source of visual stimulus and nothing else. The highlights are interesting and more extensive than on SportsCenter. The analysis is terrible.

What gets me is the music. The music has caused me to either use Detroit Sports Report or the internet for sports news and highlights. I cannot stand this computer generated bullcrap music.

Why don't they play some good music? Sgt. Peppers, Pink Floyd, the Who, anything that isn't computer generated bullcrap.

Kruk is out of his element on Baseball Tonight. He was awesome on the Best Damn Sports Show, and it was when he left that that show started to suck.

I think it would distracting. Furthermore, the rights fees would leave the show bankrupt.
