Simple question: what has happened to Kody Kirkland?

Last I saw he was batting below .150...what's wrong?

25K, 2BB. That should help explain it.

Brent Clevelen has slid a bit too. He's been benched for like a week due to his defensive f-ups.

Really ? I assumed it was some kind of injury. Not that I don't trust you but where did you hear this ?

Well he warms up before games and he dresses and wears his spikes every game. I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure he's not injured.

Nothing helps a young kid (someone we're supposedly grooming for the majors) work out his defensive lapses quite like benching him for several games in a row.

It's really helpful for his development at the plate, too.

I agree. He'll be more motivated to get underneath the damn ball next time he's out there.

I was being sarcastic.

He probably wouldn't have been charged for errors if he wasn't underneath the ball in the first place. Can't get an error if you don't get to the ball.

What he was doing is: in two games, he made 3 or 4 errors on fly balls down the right field line. He would get wall-itus and stop about 5 feet short of the wall and just stick out his glove, and the ball would bounce off his glove. It's his own fault he wasn't under the ball.

I wasn't. I think it's a good move and it's one of the few things Green has done this year that I agree with.

Or YAY he didn't hurt himself running into a wall.

I'd rather he make errors close to a wall. Like I said, if he had just let the ball go he wouldn't have been charged with the errors.

You didn't see the plays. I should upload a pic of that line. There's probably 6-8 feet of foul territory and and some of those were still in foul territory. He was nowhere close to the wall. He's looking up in the ball and just gets nervous. If you'd seen the plays youd know what I'm talking about, it's hard to explain on here.

They're not gonna bench a guy like him for something like you described. These were just flat out terrible defensive efforts.

Letting the ball go and not trying would have been an error in each case. He had plenty of time to get under the ball in each case.

Do you mean some of the plays were still in fair territory? I guess I would expect him to get gun shy around the wall in foul territory. If he's gun shy around the wall while still in fair territory, he's got some issues he needs to work on.

I'm not a big fan of benching a prospect like Cleven for poor play. He needs to play more to no longer do these things. Make him practice defense out near the wall before the game, but don't bench him.

They don't usually charge OF's with errors if they misplay a ball but end up not getting to it. Lots of "errors" don't get charged on guys who take three steps in only to watch the ball go over their head.

He's still not hitting well... .214....but what might be just as alarming is his 18 errors already....yikes!!!

His ops, secondary average and bbab rankings are all above 115 in his league. Read that again! Yeouch!!!

And the first two have actually gotten worse over the last week.

I thought he was highly overrated when I saw him numerous times last year.....I believe I stated he had a "looong way to go"....but a hot start overshadowed his rather pedestrian finish and fooled a lot of people into believing he was a savior...

At least Clevlen has gotten a lot better after his slow start.
