they were unlucky.  they were better than chicago for most of the night.

but they just cant score.  0-30 on the power play?  holy cow.

they really miss bertuzzi being on front of the net.

they need more skating speed. They are going nowhere offensively until they find some.

I’m disappointed with Zadina even though he’s probably on pace to be a typical #6 overall pick and other than Hughes I don’t think there’s any player drafted below him I’d immediately exchange him for. But I’m disappointed because one of these days I want a Red Wing to outplay his draft position, which hasn’t happened in awhile. On draft day I thought Mitch Marner production by year 3 was a possibility for Zadina. Or play like a # 5. Elias Peterssen. Or like a #21 Brock Boeser. Might happen, hasn’t yet. Veleno and Berggren and McIsaac might turn into producers, hasn’t happened yet. I want a pleasant surprise to happen.

The Wings have received abysmal production from their 1st round picks of the past few years - that may change with Seider or Raymond but we need to reserve judgement until we actually see them hit the NHL.

i thought zadina played well last night.  last night is what i want zadina to do: play on the top line and shoot the puck.  if the wings had a guy to screen the goalie, there's a better chance some of those go in the net.

but to your point, they need to go in the net more and i'm disappointed so far that they havent.  like you said, its not that he's playing poorly or doesnt have a future, but its that he's not a transformational player.  when he fell to six we all thought we got a generational steal, instead it appears we got a good winger with a hard shot.

that's good!  im not looking that gift horse in the mouth.  but i was hoping we drafted the next sergei fedorov and not the next slava kozlov.

Wings right back at it this afternoon versus the Panthers again, and the Wings lead 2-1 with 3 minutes to go in regulation. Mantha just had a breakaway chance to ice it but couldn't bury it.

I’ve been done with NHL outdoor games since years ago but the Tahoe setting for Flyers-Bruins is pretty spectacular. Too bad the sunshine pushed  the start time back and knocked it off the main NBC network.

Wings played tonight. Listless. Didn't score. PP putrid.  Lost in regulation. The end.

they were playing them half-way steady but waiting to lose and the bad penalty and PP goal was all it took to finally tip the balance. Larkin looked half-way alive but too bad he has no-one the hold up the rest of a line with him. But like too many nights the best player on the ice was wearing the other uniform.

The waived off goal was also huge gift they squandered.

The other thing that I think stood out tonight to me more than usual was the continuing lack of RH shots. Seems like they spent a ton of time being ineffective from the right side of the offensive zone. It's too easy to keep them bottled  up on their wrong side. Supposedly 35% of the league shoots right but you'd never know it watching the Wings the last few years.

Will the Wings gagner ce match thanks to Gagner. Two goals from him and the Wings lead Nashville 3-2 with a few minutes left in regulation.

Hattie for Gagner into the empty net. 5 goals - by Erne (3), Glendenning and Erne. Who would have thunk it?

I'd say at this point the four worst records in the NHL are those of Ottawa, Detroit, Anaheim and Vancouver.

If they can play a few more periods like the they played in the 3rd tonight and add Bertuzzi back it should increase the entertainment value. Nice to see DeKeyser logging some positive ice time, 17min and a +3.

But they still need to throw away the play to Zadina that they keep beating like a dead horse. It's just giving away puck possession to watch him keep fanning/missing on the shot off the pass.

good win.

even though the results arent there yet, they look much better than last year.

The Wings are following up their 5 goal game the other night with 3 goals through 2 periods in Chicago. For the Wings that counts as an offensive explosion.

Weird who is scoring these goals for the Wings the past 2 games. Nielsen and Helm tonight, for example. 5-2 Wings. Nielsen's 1st goal in 363 days.
