I think they absolutely should. Shouldn't cost too terribly much. He's ready for a change of scenery. Tell him we want him to be the face of the franchise and try signing him to a 5 year extension. He's ready to get out of Chicago and has been injured the last few years. It seems he's finally healthy and could have a monster season. What do you guys think? I think just trading for him alone would show him that he's wanted and should inspire him to do well.... Thoughts?

No question he would be a nice pickup but I have a hard time seeing the Tigers match the offers the Cubs could get from a playoff team at the deadline. Yeah - I know they say deadline dealing is dead, but still...

Injured all the time?  600 PAs in 5 of 6 seasons?

That said, I don't see trading for him.  He has one year remaining.  The Tigers have Candelario, Paredes, Torkelson for 1B/3B duties in the near future as well as Cabrera's contract at DH for 3 more years.  Unless one of those gets moved, its hard to see where Bryant fits in unless he moves to OF (which I don't think would be wise).

well, if we were trading for him in 2019 you might have a point.  he missed half their games last year.

you dont follow the cubs, trust me, he's constantly hurt.  and shoulder problems too.

also a scott boras client so if you traded for him it would only be a one year rental.

on the flipside, the cubs are giving away all their players for nothing, so you could get him for some "intriguing athletic upsides" plus a "great velocity but needs to work on his control."  it probably wouldnt cost too much.

His biggest thing right now is he's saying he's not having fun because of the constant trade rumors. So lets get him now while he's cheap and sign him. I think even Boras would take what he could get for Bryant right now just to be done with it. I'd love a 5 year deal with an OPT out after year 3 and 4.

I'd much rather gamble on Bryant's upside than Candelario and probably even Peredes at this point.

boras will never "take what he can get right now."

bryant is about to turn 30 and you'll be buying his decline years for whatever he has left right now.  no thanks.

the way stars are being traded for nothing, i might just offer them some ridiculously lowball package of nothing prospects like..say...dawel lugo, jose king and maybe sergio alcantara and see if they bite.

In a case like Arenado the player return is just the fig leaf so it can be called a trade instead of an outright contract bailout.

would you sign him to a 10 year $250 million extension with an opt out after 3 years?

That's a good question.  If the Tigers want to get one of the star shortstops who is potentially available after this season, they will need to do something like that.  I can say I would rather have Lindor or Correa, but who know if they'll be available or if they would want to play for the Tigers.

Coor's creation? Story's OPS home/away OPS split is 234 pts. Yikes.

That is always a concern with Colorado players, but Coors splits are deceptive because the other teams in their division tend to play in pitching parks.  That would be an expensive contract for another Jhonny Peralta though.

I'm wondering what sense it makes to spend prospect and monetary capital on a player who hits free agency after this year.

Trade Justin Thompson, Frank Catalanotto, Gabe Kapler, and Francisco Cordero to pull it off.

Not saying I would do it for Bryant but there is a benefit of getting the player and having exclusive negotiation rights with him for a year.    For instance if the Dodgers never traded for Mookie Betts and he hit FA this year there's a chance that they either A would have spent a lot more money outbidding other teams or B. another team would have outbid them so if they didn't trade for him last year they may not have him right now.
