he sucks that's why.

He has no arm strength, he can't run and makes stupid decisions. He also fumbles a lot.

They gave up a 1st round pick to dump him.  I hope he is Decent here but Im assuming he will be terrible.

When Wentz is good hes 100x better than Goff.

He totally has arm strength, he has thrown a 67 yard all air TD in the NFL, that's only 3 yards behind the all time record.  And only a handful of NFL qbs have ever thrown one farther in a game.

Also His throwing velocity at the combine was 58mph which is within 1 mph of every qb since 08 outside of Josh Allen who was 3 mph more.

I don't know Randy Marsh...............he really sucks, I guess.

Or maybe the Rams could only take Stafford if they got rid of Goff becasue having two 25 million dollar QBs on your roster is not good cap management.

Oh, Goff has been to the Super Bowl -   Was it because of him?  No, but he was good enough to get there.

I'm not saying he is good but he definitely has the physical tools like arm strength.

The Rams didn't pay Goff to go away. Other teams asked the Rams about Goff, the Lions wanted Goff, and the Rams needed to clear his contract so they could get Stafford under the cap. Three way trades are rare in the NFL but the Lions wanted Goff.

Goff isn't terrible but he needs a very strong supporting cast to succeed. That right there is the big difference between him and Stafford. Stafford can succeed in just about any offense because he has a world class arm and enough mobility to navigate the pocket.

Hasn't the conventional wisdom on Stafford always been that he's a QB who needs a strong, talented cast around him to succeed? And if that CW is inaccurate, why did the Lions have so little success during Stafford's time here?

sure, other teams asked if they might want a 6th round pick to take goff off their hands.

The Saints traded a 3rd round draft pick for Teddy Bridgewater to be their backup QB after he nearly had a leg amputated. The Dolphins traded a 2nd round pick for Rosen. GTFO with this Goff is only worth a 6th round pick. Wentz is likely to fetch at least a 1st or 2nd round pick.

The conventional wisdom is that he needs at least a mediocre team like any other QB. One would think in 2019 when the Lions were 3-4-1 with Stafford and 0-8 without him that show why the Lions had little success with Stafford. You seriously expect any QB to elevate a winless team to the playoffs and beyond?

Valid point, though it is also true that the Lions had awfully bad fill ins, which made the comparison a little starker than it might have been. We weren't going from Stafford to average; more like from Stafford to some guys they picked up loitering on St. Antoine. xD

The Rams are taking the dead cap hit. The Lions will be taking on about $28 million in 2021 and then can easily move on from him after 2021. It's literally only one year they are committed to Goff. Wentz has a similar onerous contract but is older, has a worse injury history, and is becoming known as a problem and uncoachable. The Rams didn't need to pay a 1st round to get rid of his contract. They could have gotten a decent pick for him.

In a vacuum I think you are right.  In this deal I’m not 100% sure.  The Rams wanted Stafford.  To make it work they had to move Goff at some point.  If they trade for Stafford first everyone else knows they are stuck and they lose leverage when trading Goff.  If they trade Goff first they are putting themselves at risk of missing out on Stafford so they lose leverage with Detroit.  Luckily for both sides Detroit was interested in Goff and LA wanted Stafford.

I think the Lions could get a better return because they don’t need Goff.  I’m not saying the Rams traded a 1st for Detroit to take Goff.  I’m saying they probably didn’t get as much for Goff as they would have outside the Stafford trade.

honestly I'd take a 2nd or 3rd for Goff.  I think he's that bad.  A second this year would be nice.

I hope I'm wrong but the people who hated stafford are going to wish Goff was 10% the QB he was.

Actually the insiders, including Schefter who is reliable, were saying that there was a market for Goff. I find that hard to believe considering how poor he's been the last few seasons and that contract but in a QB market with high demand and short supply, it's possible.

You said he has no arm strength, that's far from the truth, and I'm not even a big Goff fan. You were right that Wentz was better at his peak and Goff is a not a good decision maker but wrong that he has no arm strength.

I don't want to wish ill on Stafford but I'd be lying if I said I was hoping that he and the Rams have this great success.   I want them to suck the next couple years so we get better picks.

Now if they are in the NFC Championship game  I'll be pulling for them then because seeing Staff in the Super Bowl would be worth potentially  going from the 28th to 32nd pick otherwise I'll be rooting for the Rams to lose every game.

As much as I'm a fan of Stafford I'm more of a fan of the Lions and want what's best for them.

I’m on the Staff Super Bowl train. I hope he wins three and goes to the Hall of Fame.

yes!  me too.

i care about stafford winning a super bowl more than i care about the lions' draft pick from the rams.

i hope he wins multiple super bowls, then comes back to detroit as an old man and "mentors" whatever rookie qb the lions have then.
