Lions and Stafford Agree To Part Ways

Recommended Posts

The Eagles are apparently getting calls for Wentz. You can't tell me Goff had no value and the Rams paid a 1st round pick to make him go away.

Nick Foles has to be so excited

Wentz has value. He was an MVP candidate 3 years ago (teams see the upside in that), he's still fairly young and there are still a lot of QB needy teams with not many QB options available, even moreso with Stafford off the market (the demand greatly outweighs the supply), so somebody will overpay for Wentz hoping that he rediscovers that form he had when he first came into the league.

Honestly, I would laugh at the Bears as opposed to being upset at Holmes if they give up two 1sts for Wentz. That would be such a "Bears" move. I doubt the Eagles get that kind of haul but it would be hilarious if the Bears do it.

I’d probably choose Goff over Wentz but is there really that much difference?

Enough of a difference to choose Goff over Wentz.

Especially age (26 vs. 28) and downfield accuracy and arm (avg yds/attempt of 7.5 (high of 8.4 with a running game and downfield threats) vs. 6.7 (high of 7.7))... Wentz is the better runner, but I like Goff's upside and longer runway better than Wentz's...

Do the Bears include Mack going back to the Eagles? Philadelphia will take a massive cap hit.

Cut Hicks, Graham, Massie, Frees up $30 million.

If Wentz can get a 1st rounder, surely Goff could. Essentially the Lions got three 1st round picks for Stafford.

That's what I said earlier...

That's why I like the trade so much: because of the "perceived" return from the Lions perspective (two 1st rounders, a QB worth a 1st rounder, and a 3rd rounder) versus the "perceived" value from the Rams perspective (a QB upgrade for a 1st and 3rd rounder and a huge salary dump with the cost of an extra 1st attached).

The Rams really gotta believe Stafford gets them a couple Supers, because from our perspective, we made out like bandits.

Bridgewater and Drew Lock suck (so far) so... their packages aren't even close to the Rams package, IMO.

Cohen is the offensive player per reports.  That’s an acceptable return for Wentz but nothing close to Stafford.

Cohen, Foles and a FIRST round pick?

That is way too much for Wentz, but the Bears are desperate.

BTW, Trubisky was much better than Wentz last year.  Let that sink in.

Yeah the Bears are overpaying with a first round pick alone, even though this year is 20, but Trubisly needs to be at his absolute best to beat  an average Wentz (and I really don’t like Wentz). Cohen and Foles are basically throw away players in this deal.  Foles is getting cut if not traded and Cohen is an undersized RB who really only has value as a receiver coming off an ACL injury.  The Eagles are doing OK in this one.

Foles is an overpaid backup. Cohen is an OK RB but probably not a feature back. The number 20 pick seems fair for Wentz. This once again proves Goff is not some throw in and worth at least a 1st round pick.

Yeah, Goff is better than Wentz.

Slightly.

I think when healthy Wentz is a little better but there are question marks with Wentz like his injury history. He's also older and coming off a pretty bad season, worse than any full season Goff had. There are also a lot of reports out that he is uncoachable.

I think Goff's best is better then Wentz's best. That's why I call him slightly better.

Wentz has some better mobility, but less arm; add in the injuries as you've noted, and two less prime years...

If I had a choice, I choose Goff over Wentz 9 times out of 10.

But the REAL key won't really have anything to do with one, or the other... It will be the ability to put a high level team around either of these QB's. Both need a strong supporting cast; both are NOT carry-the-team type of QB's... So this will end up being the determining factor for whether Goff is a success with the Lions, and/or if Wentz is a success with the Bears.

Wentz had one of the worst years EVER for a QB last year and his contract is enormous.  If Philly really suckers the Bears into giving them a first round pick for him, that's amazing.

If Goff is worth a first round pick, then the Lions should trade him immediately.

If Wentz is worth a 1st round pick, then Goff for sure is worth a 1st round pick. Why would the Lions trade him? It's bad enough the Lions traded one good QB but now two? They don't grow on trees.

Unless the Panthers or Broncos get REALLY desperate.

Look, it's one game of course but Eric Bienimey and Andy Reid are getting completely out coached. Not exactly helping Bienimey's coaching stock. Unreal though how bad Kansas City looks.
