Advertised Divisions?

Recommended Posts

Being a casual hockey fan at best, I'm curious what more hard core fans think about this.  I don't have much of a problem as presented here, but how long until it's "The MassMutual Division" instead of "The East Division presented by MassMutual"?

It doesn't really impact me, as I know the sponsors aren't going to be dropped into casual conversations among fans.

My interest is what the sponsors have been promised. Is it just going to be labeled that way on the NHL.com standings page, or will announcers be instructed/encouraged to use the full name, or anything else?

I'm fine with a fair bit, even changing a division to the MassMutual Division, but the things would bother would be: a) sponsorship patches all over jerseys like in Europe or race car drivers; b) the flashing scrolling (LED?) advertisements at ground/ice level that distract me a lot on soccer telecasts; c) sponsorship of the Stanley Cup. The FedEx Stanley Cup no way, this "presentation of the Stanley Cup to the 2030 champion Detroit Red Wings is brought to you by Mastercard" is probably coming; and d) replacing city names or nicknames of teams with sponsor names - I'm out if it becomes the Detroit Comericas or the Comerica Red Wings.
