Time to approach Blake about a buyout.  Other than chasing a ring he really has no incentive to lose money and take a buyout, so maybe they should just cut him.

He is on the books the next two years no matter what.  Do we really care if he is on the court or not?  Dumping him allows Grant to move to the 4 and opens more backup minutes for Sekou at PF.  It also allows Bey to start at SF with Grant moving to PF.  I think the young guys would be better off with Blake gone.

Yep.  Sekou needs minutes...badly.

The size of his contract was never an issue.  $20M isn't that much for an NBA contract.  The lowest level max deal starts at $27M.  The MLE is $9.2M and $20M only makes up 18% of the salary cap.

The problem is he really isn't a SF and is better at PF, and the Pistons already have Blake for the next two years.  That and he isn't worth stretching someone and taking on dead money for 5 years, even as good as he has been.

The question still to ask though, is:

Why Grant over Wood?

More questions:

Who is the better player/ contract?

What is it about Grant that says he is a culture fit and Wood is not? Does this answer the first question? Or would Wood just as easily have filled the culture requirement? I know he had his defensive slip-ups... Is this the answer to all my questions above?
