So I think I came closest to this deal... Two 1sts, a 3rd, and a former 1st round QB for Stafford.

I am looking at Goff a placeholder for the next couple of years... They could still draft a QB for the future in this draft...

But we'll see. Maybe the Lions brain trust is going to use the picks to build up the team first and grab a QB in a later draft after giving Goff at least a chance...

My gut tells me that they go for the QB in this draft though... let him sit and learn for a year or two...

PS: I meant that in a more general sense...

I see that Michigan Cardinal damn near predicted the trade verbatim.

But my original sense, as soon as word of a potential trade of Stafford came out was that, he wasn't going to get "just" a single 1st round pick. Premium QB available, multiple near-Championship teams needing a top QB, etc...

Means we should be getting more than just one 1st. Which was my point above...

The interview requests have just been blowing up my phone..... it's in the other room right now, but I'm sure I'll have a bunch of missed calls when I check..... better go turn the ringer on...... :D

Real talk though, I think Holmes/Campbell/co. handled this exceptionally well to get maximum value out of someone who you needed to move. When your franchise QB wants out, you don't necessarily expect to be in the driver's seat of these negotiations, but Holmes had multiple teams coming to him, and that speaks volumes.

Come on Stafford - just come on out and slam Patricia by name.   Come on, man.   Nobody will think less of you as he may be one of the most hated coaches or people in the entire NFL.   Sounds like he deserves every bad thing said about him.

I'm just gonna throw a name out there for WR coach. Antwan Randle-El....former player, currently an assistant's assistant in TB

He's on the Lions radar along with Hines Ward. Ward is definitely a kneecapper.

The Lions have said they are looking 2-3 years out.  That said, they have to at least pick up the phone and see if Watson is available for Goff, and our next three first round picks and the third we just got? (leaving us with the 2 1st round picks from the Rams in 22 and 23).

The Lions need more players. As good as Watson is, the Texans only won 4 games because they lacked talent. Watson is best suited for a team that has talent but not the QB like the Colts.

At his age though, we'd have a few years to get to that point.  My guess is Watson would nix any deal to Detroit for that reason though.

If he was told it's Detroit or staying in Houston and getting fined to oblivion, he might say okay to Detroit. To not and have that be leaked (which it absolutely would on the Texans part) makes him look like the problem, not Houston.

If the Texans don't want to trade him period, it's even less likely they trade him within the division. I think a team like the Cowboys could be the ones to make that kind of massive splash.

I could see Washington as well. Daniel Snyder has never been afraid of making a splash.

Watson wouldn't want to come to a rebuilding team.     Plus, the Lions are worse off than an expansion team now and it still needs to be broken down more before the real rebuild starts in a year.   If you bring Watson in to QB a really bad team,  you run the risk of getting him hurt a lot and by the team they are good, he'd be ruined.     Go with Goff this year.  If he's bad we get a better draft pick, but if he's really good it makes the trade more lopsided.   I don't want them to draft a QB this year unless it is someone they already covet.   There will be good QBs next year and the year after............This is going to take awhile.

There is a difference between a rebuild and a dumpster fire, and for once, we are in the better of those categories right now. If Watson is being smart and just wants out of a situation where a franchise is playing with matches, burning itself to the ground, and not even realizing it, then I think he would say yes to any trade to any of the 31 other teams. If he's being whiny though and just doesn't like not having the career of Tom Brady where the team around you is elite for 20 consecutive years, then.... he should shut up. And I'm not sure a team should want him to be the face of the franchise for the next 10-15 years. Additionally, if the Texans were to strike a deal with the Lions and then Watson said no, you could bet they'd fine him up the wazoo if he still held out, and he would no longer look like the good guy in that tiff.

That said, I tend to agree in not acquiring him. Watson would just take too much. We are looking at potentially being competitive as soon as 2022 or 2023 if things go our way. The assets we would have to give away to acquire Watson would set that back by at least one or two more years, and by 2024 or 2025, who is to say that the 30-year-old Watson would even be the same player he is today? Use Goff for what he's worth, whatever that is, and keep an eye on each of the coming draft boards for who could be your franchise QB.

Oh my gosh what are the Texans even doing?

The Lions have had decades of mismanagement, but I can’t ever recall them reaching the acute level of ineptitude that the Texans have reached. It is just embarrassing to watch.

I know some people were lukewarm on Rick Smith, but that team fell into chaos after he left. He may be a better GM than we give him credit for.

Not defending Millen but that was "just" due to bad scouting and player development.   It wasn't like he was doing these complete boneheaded trades or mismanaging premium talent like the Texans have been doing the past couple years.

That was pretty epically bad though...
