Matt Patricia/Bob Quinn fired - Holmes/Cambell Hired as GM/Coach

Recommended Posts

Was being considered for DC for the Rams. Rams had a good secondary. This would be an important hire since Okudah is the only defensive player with upside.

Maybe it’s wishful thinking but Oruwariye and Walker still have a small bit of upside left.   Walker fell off a cliff last season but maybe a change of leadership can help him.

I'd like to hope that Will Harris could also still be salvaged... somehow.

Has the athleticism, but doesn't seem to be catching on... not certain what the issue is there...

Campbell blurted it out. The players didn’t know what they were doing out there. And they played slow rather than play fast and chance a mistake that Patricia would ream them for.

The Lions may be a more running team like under Patricia. Lynn is a RB coach by trade. The Chargers were 9th in rushing attempts last year and weren't exactly great at it averaging 3.8 YPC. However, in 2019 when they had Rivers, they were 28th in attempts. Perhaps they ran more to protect the rookie QB? You can't blame them since Herbert had a very good rookie season. I expect to see a lot of Swift and possibly Johnson this season.

I also noted Holmes talking about a succession and you can clearly see the succession plan coming together. Pleasant is clearly next in line for DC if Glenn gets a HC and Staley next in line for OC if Lynn becomes a HC again. Holmes may have also been tipping his hand as to what was going to happen with Stafford.

I remember being excited when they started getting all the Patriot guys...."maybe THIS time it is different!".

I mock and I joke, but I would like to see them put it all together at least once.  I will not care nearly as much about it as I would have 10 or even 5 years ago, but it still would be cool to watch and see those who are still hanging on every pass get some enjoyment out of them doing well.

Apathy...it really sucks

They are hiring guys from different orgs and perspectives. Campbell isn't necessarily married to New Orleans or Miami guys...as far as I can tell.

It takes a lot of courage to hire guys who are good, and not just “my guys.”

Hiring “my guys” is a cope for not wanting to get called out for your weaknesses and errors.

Hiring the best guys is saying “I want you to expose my weaknesses and correct my errors so I can improve.”

Campbell does have some connections to a lot of these coaches. Fipp was on his staff in Miami. Lynn was RB coach in Dallas when Campbell was a player. Glenn was DB coach in New Orleans with Campbell. Pleasant has the Rams connection (He's also a Flint native). Not sure any connection with Duce Staley but he was teammates with Hank Fraley who is the OL coach. That brings me to another point. It seems only Fraley is the only one of Patricia's staff that is being retained. Fraley also appears to be the best coach from Patricia's staff outside of Bevell. Even though they got connections, they all seem like good hires.

I like Campbell.  I said as much before, but it does not take any kind of courage to hire good people, that is simply good business.

It was amusing to hear Carlos Monarrez throw shade on everyone's euphoria. He thinks they are already past the 'too many cooks in the kitchen' point.

Carlos Monarrez criticized the Lions because they didn't hire Kevin Colbert or John Schneider. The Lions could not negotiate with either because that would be tampering, Seattle and Pittsburgh weren't going to give the Lions permission to poach them, and neither were likely available via trade.

Every team has a coaching staff. I don't understand this too many cooks in the kitchen? Are they not suppose to have a DB coach like the other 31 teams in the NFL? Are you really complaining about hiring one of the best talent evaluators in the NFL to evaluate talent? Monarrez is the worst.

He isn't a Big Ten hater though, to my knowledge, unlike Sharp who lived for trolling the conference.

Drew Sharp without any talent as a writer. Drew could at least be fun to read at times

Then why did Patricia surround himself with his cronies like Paul Pasqualoni? And why did Quinn surround himself with cronies like Patricia? They did not want to be challenged. They wanted to be coddled.

I don't know if they wanted to be "coddled" but they certainly knew what they wanted for better or worse and were too arrogant to hear otherwise. Only certain types of guys will take a job under someone like that.

I don't know, coaches want people they are familiar with. Campbell has a connection to these coaches. Jim Bob Cooter and Darrell Bevell were not Patricia guys.

patricia hired pasqualoni because they were friends and everyone knew it was patricia's defense.
