in what respect is hockenson a top 5 TE in the nfl?

and to justify the draft slot, he needs to develop into gronkowski or kelce or kittle. he still has time to do that, but he's far from that right now.

NFL TEs 2020:

Receptions: 5th.
Yards: 5th.
TDs: 6th

Also 1st in pro bowl votes this year (subjective I know).  His blocking has been good.

Im not justifying draft slot.   But the poster said he is gonna be a bust. That part is wrong. He is already really good.  Especially considering the offense resembles 1997 where TEs were more valued for blocking.  Get him out in space more.

Ed Oliver, who a lot of people wanted, has been pretty awful so far. Hockenson may actually be the Lions only Pro Bowler.

do you think the lions should have kept patricia and quinn?

No but WTF does that have to do with whether the Lions should have drafted Hockenson over Oliver?

i think hockenson has been fine.  he's in his second season and he's a productive player.

i think he was over drafted.  i think he's not a game breaker.  i think his blocking has been greatly overrated.

but he's a good player.

Ford Motor is still solvent.  The Detroit Lions are the worst franchise in the history of sport.

I don’t.   But it’s not a large point of contention for me. I agree with you. Hockenson is fine.  Not worth an 8th but TE 1 isn’t the lions problem.

i think its indicative of quinn drafting players in positions that are less valuable than others and a propensity to take players with high floors and low ceilings.

and the thinking that pass rush and speed are not valuable, but he instead puts value on size and positional sense rather than the ability to turn the corner and rush the passer or have speed on the outside.

lions have good receivers who dont create separation because theyre not fast enough, and pass rushers who set the edge but cant get around tackles, and linebackers who are big but not fast, and corners who are not fast but are big.

that's what he's picked.  and it hasnt worked.

the leafs won in the 60s.  the lions have won 1 playoff game since 1957 in a league designed to create parity.

the lions are by far the worst franchise in the history of american sports.

I am fascinated to see how the defense looks without Patricia's direct influence.    Who knows, maybe they are better than we thought and it was just a terrible scheme.    Cory Underling was hired to be a Yes Man, but maybe he gets to actually show something.    Maybe these guys get to loosen up and play ball........as in" play" and not be forced into a lifeless, archaic scheme.

I am fascinated to see how the offense looks without Patricia's direct influence.

I did a search on the "worst franchises" and they had the temerity to put the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on that list.

Guess people would rather the Lions draft worse players as long as they aren't a TE.

says the guy who thought teez tabor was a good pick.

it always makes me laugh to hear people say the browns or the jets are worse than the lions.  the browns were within a yard of the super bowl.  the jets WON a super bowl.

there is no one as bad as the lions.  no one.

Tabor was worth the gamble as a second round pick but I'm disappointed we don't have Ed Oliver who is one of the worst DL in the league and has been arrested for drunk driving.

Part of the misery is that its the idea that we don't deserve nice things

tabor was not worth the gamble, he was slow and bad and is out of the league.  which is what everyone said at the time.

what everyone said about hockenson at the time was that there is no point in taking a tight end that high unless he's going to be gronkowski and it is unlikely he would be gronkowski.  which he is - so far - not.  he may get there eventually but it doesnt look promising.

the only reason you defended the tabor pick is because everyone else said it was terrible.

But the defensive players who were taken have been worse than Hockenson. I would rather draft a decent TE than a terrible DL.

I don't give a **** about Tabor anymore. You're literally bringing up Tabor to start something and then accuse me of arguing or being contrarian or whatever. Not going to engage any further on your Tabor troll.

For the record, PFF had him rated as one of the best CB prospects in the draft and compared him to Aqib Talib.
