Lions really about to **** this up.

I really, really, really hate it when a team puts a huge value on an interview for a job like a football coach. Interview talent/presentation has almost no correlation with any of the skills actually demanded of a great coach. Look at the guy's record, talk to everyone you can find that  has known him/played for him, but don't talk you yourself out a choice because someone else tells a better story in a set of interviews. if you have done your research all the interview should be for is to make sure the guy has no loose screws - it should be a stop gate only. Otherwise you will fully deserve your next Matt Millen.

Jets flying in Saleh for a 2nd interview.  Lions need to **** or get off the pot.  This is getting frustrating that they are waiting so long.  Hire Dodds today and then offer the job to Saleh.   They are gonna let the top targets get away because they are interviewing every human who has ever watched football.

If the rumors are true, they didn't like Saleh very much so don't get your hopes up. This will also eliminate Dodds in all likelihood.

I'm expecting Paton/Lewis or Bevell.

Think Dodds would team with Bevell, they have history together.

The Dodds interview is today so it'll be interesting to see what comes out of it.

It seems like we'll know Saleh's fate soon with the Jets having the in person interview today so we can move on either way.

The GM hire is more important anyway so if Bevell comes with Dodds, so be it.

I was feeling all good yesterday and now I am nervous we will miss out on Saleh and end up with Marvin Lewis.

Patton is doing a second interview with Denver so the Lions better **** or get off the pot.

Paralysis by analysis.   Maybe Spielman has no idea how to make a decision.  The decision needs to be made.  They have interviewed enough people. Make a damn choice already.

Only one of the 6 or so GM positions has been filled so it's not like the Lions are the only ones.

Just wait until tater hears the Lions may hire a TE as coach.

Ha! Truth be told, I don't know enough about Campbell, other than he was an interim coach with the Dolphins, to be upset if the Lions end up choosing him. I'd list Saleh, Daboll, Arthur Smith, Bieniemy ahead of Campbell but would probably put him ahead of a retread like Marvin Lewis.

Andy Reid, Bill Bellichick, Pete Carroll, Gary Kubiak, Tom Coughlin were all retreads who won Super Bowls recently.

Andy Reid had already made a Super Bowl in Philly, Pete Carroll was a National Championship winning coach at USC, Tom Coughlin made multiple AFC Championship games. Marvin Lewis had several loaded rosters and flamed out in the first round every time. Marvin Lewis took chances on a multitude of troubled players and the Bengals had more off the field issues than most teams over Lewis' tenure. In 2016, one of the headcase players Lewis brought in finally caught up with him and cost the Bengals a playoff win when Vontaze Burfict laid out Antonio Brown. I want to see what's on the other side versus going with a retread like Lewis.

yup. Set your criteria, rate your candidates and hire one. There is no heavenly chorus that is going to start singing when Mr Right walks into the room. Once you have made your best effort to collect the data, there is no sense sitting around waiting for a lightning bolt that isn't going to come.

You get the impression they are waiting for the guy that 'feels' right, which is a trap because how he feels to SHF or even Spielman means close to nothing to what kind of coach he is going to be to his team long term.

I think we'll know today/tomorrow. I feel like Dodds is the last interview, Coach or GM, and then we'll get our answer.

Only one vacancy has been filled so far and it was just a GM hire.

I get what you're saying but it applies to just about every team in this case. Quite frankly, it's nice to see the Lions honor the process and do their due diligence. I don't remember the last time the Lions undertook a process this thorough.

Also, Wood made it clear that they are looking to hire a GM and coach that are connected so essentially, it's a two for one package. That takes time.

Yeah there's like 6 teams with openings and one one position has been filled and that position was so hastily filled that they alienated their franchise QB. To put it in perspective, Bob Quinn was hired January 8th when the Lions interviewed far fewer candidates. We're only 4 days past that date.

I'll grant some of that. OTOH, the Lions have known/should have know they had a vacancy earlier than most teams so ought to be ahead of them.

Atlanta and Houston fired their GM and coach a month before the Lions. Jacksonville fired their GM one day after the Lions. Carolina fired their GM only a month later. Denver never really had a GM. So yeah, the Lions didn't have a vacancy ahead of most. Plus, some of the top candidates couldn't have been hired/interviewed until after the season.

LOL - Lion knew they had a vacancy before the season started.

No they didn't or else they would have fired Quinn before the season. Fact is, the Lions haven't had any more or less time than any other team. Carolina has interviewed 15 candidates and why do we assume it's the owners wanting the interviews? There's multiple openings and candidates can shop around and use other interviews for leverage.

You suppose the Lions have guys calling them up who were not on their list asking to interview? I suppose that could be happening, not sure what that would say about the Lions' process if they are saying "yes" to the requests!

I'm saying they could have offered  a guy like Patton a contract but he is going to Denver to interview as leverage.

I suppose once you become the Lions "you are my second choice, I'll get back to you after I talk to the team I like better" is what you deal with.
