So it’s officially #7. If there’s a run on QBs, they have a shot at the LB Parsons.

I don't think they've had the opportunity to interview all of their GM candidates yet. Probably want to make sure they don't miss out on a candidate like Saleh if a team like the Jets (who already have their GM in place) comes calling him too.

Perhaps, it just seems unusual to interview coaches without a GM.

The defensive genius gave us the worst defense in the NFL.

Can anyone explain to me exactly what they were even trying to do?

“Multiple.”

I'm also not sold on Fields.  We have seen this from OSU QBs before.

Dwayne Haskins is available.

welp.  the eagles realized they might win this game and then put in nate sudfeld at qb.

props to the eagles for realizing how to tank.

I was legit bummed when I saw him coming into the game because had the Eagles won, the Lions had a chance to pass them in the draft order. Oh well.

He is a reclamation project at this point given which naturally means one of New England, Pittsburgh, or Seattle will sign him.

the eagles legitimately threw that game.  like, they tried to lose on purpose.

why cant they just use flat out incompetence like the lions????

btw, kudos to the refs for costing the lions that game yesterday.  never let it be said that the officials dont do the lions the occasional solid.

Houston has been interviewing head coaches. Maybe they want to interview coaching candidates to see if the GM is on the same page as management.

Different players with different problems. Newton has a broken down, beat up body that is likely done. Haskins is an immature, moronic kid and needs to be in a culture with coaches and players who can teach this kid how to grow up.

How many reclamation projects actually work? Haskins seems more like Johnny Manziel. I would rather take a reclamation project like Carson Wentz who has actually shown something.

Reports are Daniel Snyder forced the team to draft Haskins against his GM. Remember that when we demand Sheila force the team to draft a QB.

chargers job just came open.  that would be a good landing spot for harbaugh.

of all the jobs that are open, where do the lions rank?

chargers, falcons, jags, jets, texans, and lions.

i'd say the lions are nearer the bottom than the top.

chargers

jags

texans

falcons/lions

jets

Jacksonville is a 1 win team. Even with the number one pick, I'm not sure that is desirable. The Texans don't have their first round pick but have Watson. I think we can agree the Jets are the worst. The Chargers are probably best and all the other teams are in the middle.

jags get trevor lawrence and have some interesting pieces.  definitely a better job than detroit, especially if they deal stafford.

I'd probably switch the Jags and Chargers depending on what one thinks of Lawrence but that seems about right.

Ultimately though, it comes down to money and power to have full autonomy. The one attraction of GMing the Lions is that the owners are pretty hands off and will spend to the max.

Removing ownership and just looking at roster, cap, and other on field stuff:

Chargers

Texans

Jags

Lions

Jets

Falcons

Add in ownership with the other stuff and it all changes:

Falcons

Chargers

Lions

Jags

Other two are completely off the board.

The Jags owner has already come out and said that he is telling GMs that he remains in complete control of the roster and the players so if I was a GM or coach not sure I'd want to deal with an owner that won't let me actually do my job.

I think if we look at ownership form a historical perspective the Lions are clearly the worst. It's probably too early to judge Sheila at this point and say she is or isn't the worst.

If I am interested in a GM job, I would have think twice about an org I see interviewing both coaches and GMs at the same time. Like "What exactly is my role supposed to be?" Now, if the Lions' plan is to hire a GM and then say "This is all the homework we have already done for you looking for head coaches - now you can finish this process" - then you can think - that's a management that's trying to help me succeed. OTOH, if they make an offer to a GM and tell him, "and by the way your new HC is going to be 'X'," probably not so much!

the texans ownership and front office situation is borderline crazy.  the jets too.

say what you will about the fords, but they seem to stay put of your business and let you do your job, they pay well, and any small amount of success is treated as "banner worthy".

Just cause the Lions have sucked under the Fords doesn't mean they are bad owners to work for.   They have sucked because the owners have hired the wrong people and been too loyal with them.

If youre an aspiring GM or coach all you can ask for from your owners is that they let you do your job, have a little patience and don't fire you as soon as anything goes south.

The Fords have shown that they will give you a chance before firing you and don't interfere too much in your business.    They've also been willing to spend money and not force the team to get rid of players the moment they get expensive.

So personally I think the Lions ownership is actually a positive thing for them despite the lack of success.
