Matt Patricia/Bob Quinn fired - Holmes/Cambell Hired as GM/Coach

Recommended Posts

I don't know, Bill O'Brien made the playoffs in 4 out of 6 full seasons and won 2 playoff games. I wouldn't call that horrendous. As a GM, O'Brien was horrendous but look at some of the QBs O'Brien made the playoffs with. He made the playoffs and won a playoff game with Brock Osweiler as QB. Frankly, that's more an indictment on Rick Smith than Bill O'Brien.

I think there is an unreasonable expectation for 2nd and 3rd picks. If Golladay and Swift pan out, that's not too bad. Glasgow was also a solid pick for a 3rd rounder.

Dimitroff was a New England guy as well.

But the difference is he has been a GM on his own and you can validate his record.    Bob Quinn was an errand runner.

Hmm.  Quandre Diggs named Pro Bowl starter at safety.  That’s crazy that a guy that wasn’t as good as Tracy Walker and Will Harris could turn things around in a year.

If we want to play this game, anyone want to comment about Darius Slay being one of the worst defensive backs in the league? Or that Hockenson is a pro bowler and Ed Oliver, who many people here wanted instead, appears to be a complete bust?

Per PFF, Diggs is having an average year. It appears being on Seattle gets you pro bowl votes over Detroit.

A simple “I got that one wrong.  It happens to the best of them sometimes” would’ve worked too.

FWIW,  Slay can’t be one of the worst DB in the league.  He’s a #1 corner that often follows the other teams top wideout.    Even if he’s the worst at guarding the best, he’s still much better than nearly every 2nd, slot, or nickel corner in the league.   Literally the very worst he could be would rank around 40th in a league of hundreds of corners.

Or you simply could've  ignored me but had to intentionally call me out to score e-points.

It's funny when I look back and see people complain that Quinn massively overpaid for an average safety and now ****** up royally for trading the massively overpaid Diggs.

Always up to argue just as long as you never have to admit when you get it wrong.

He's given up more passing yards than any defensive back in the NFL, PFF has him rated around the 75th best in the NFL, and he has his worst PFF grade since his rookie year. He's clearly in decline and he's playing just as poorly in Philadelphia as he did in Detroit.

Darius Slay has as many targets as Oruwariye but has given up for more receptions than Oruwariye and has no interceptions. Hardly Big Play Slay.

You said he was the worst corner in the league.   PFF stats are good but definitely have flaws and are not the be all, end all.

I said one of the worst. He's allowed 55 receptions on 72 targets. Oruwariye has allowed 39 on 71 targets. Slay has no interceptions. He's given up more yardage than any defensive back in the NFL. He's paid to be a top CB. He's not and he still whines about his former team.

No argument that he’s not what he once was or that he’s not as good as he thinks he is.  He’s not among the worst CB in the league.   There are literally hundreds that are worse.

Quandre Diggs PFF grade is the second worst of his career and yet he's a pro bowler. He should have been a pro bowler when he was a Lion. Funny how playing in Seattle gets you recognition. He's the same player they traded last year.

You were very vocal when the trade happened and now time has proven you were wrong.

It was idiotic of me to think for one second that you’d admit it.   That is on me.  I should have know better.

From the PFF site:

PFF grades are the output of play-by-play grading of every player on every play of every game in the NFL, and while they can’t tell you the whole story in and of themselves, they can take you a lot further than gut feel and bring some unique aspects to the table

Diggs is the same player he was in Detroit. Lion players tend to get overlooked for the Pro Bowl. Taylor Decker should be a pro bowler. It shouldn't have taken multiple receivers to go down last year for Golladay to make the Pro Bowl.

You got exactly what you wanted. You called me out specifically about Diggs for a trade that happened with a front office that has since been fired. Again, the ignore button is there but you weren't even quoting a post of mine. You literally made a mention to start something. I guess I'm the idiotic one for falling for it.

I made a mention because I wanted to keep the conversation going in the active catch all Lions thread rather than bumping an old thread from last year.

Since Diggs is the same player as last year when he was traded and Lions are often overlooked for the pro bowl does this mean that Tracy Walker and Will Harris were snubbed too and should be pro bowlers?

Eagles D gave up 150+ yrs more than their average against Washington with Slay out last week. I think it was Murray's career most yds in a game

That's assuming I think Diggs is a Pro Bowler. I don't think Diggs is a pro bowler and neither is Walker or Harris.

Slay is currently rated the 76th best CB out of 124. I'm wagering Philadelphia had higher expectations when they trade for him and gave him a big contract. He was absolutely embarrassed by DK Metcalf. Going into these past games, no one gave up more yards than Slay. I think it's clear that Slay is a shell of his former self and it wasn't just Patricia's scheme. Slay always played the opponent's top receiver in Detroit and always rated much higher.

What's funny is Duron Harmon has played just as well as Diggs and no one is even remotely talking about Harmon making a Pro Bowl.

Harmon is horrendous, he's one of the worst players in the league. You can say that Diggs doesn't deserve to be a Pro Bowler but he most certainly is better than Harmon.

Based on what metrics? PFF has Harmon graded higher ranking 29th among safeties with Diggs ranked 51st. Harmon has more tackles, both have given up the same 63% completion percentage, and Diggs has 4 interceptions to Harmon's 2. They seem very similar to me.
