There is no rhyme or reason to most of this crap

well there is, but it's mostly about the political power of the constituency rather than the scientific rationale in their case. Some of this is just the inevitable push pull you get in by virtue of the fact that leaders have to run for office and so they end up trying to thread these ridiculously crooked needles.

But TBF,  in a restaurant you obviously can't mask while eating, and the public pressure to let restaurants open at least partially is huge. So given that, if the tables are spaced then the closest you should be to another person is when you walk by their table - which you do standing up, so these things are not irrational as far as they go, the question is do they make enough difference to matter, and the answer is no-one really knows and a responsible administrator doesn't want to be the one to make a decision  that  gets someone killed when the alternative is so cost free.

The sports stuff is what I find most ridiculous. 80% of k-12 of kids are not even involved in sports but you would think we were doomed to a lost generation to hear these snowflake parents carry on.

For those who are in sports, though, it's a very big deal.  If you've been sending your kids to camps and high-level private instruction for many years, and driving them to practices, and attending games, and following their travel teams around, and spending a ton of money on that stuff, you and your kids will be royally pissed about having the rug pulled out from under you by politicians and bureaucrats who won't (or can't) even explain the bases for their decisions.

Let's face it, we're sports crazy.  Very few parents get heavily involved in the Homecoming Float Committee or the decisions on what computers to buy for the lab, but the sports people sure as L pay attention to who their kids' coaches are, and how those kids are being used on the field or the court or the ice.  Unless it turns out that the head of the History Department at Michigan has molested hundreds of students, you'll never hear anything about that or any other academic department.  But you sure hear and read a lot about U of M sports.  (And, as at most schools, or at least most Division 1 places, the football and men's basketball coaches are by far the two highest-paid employees of the U.)

Sports has an outsize influence.  Witness the recent event called the Super Bowl and all the hoopla leading up to it.  And I'm not putting myself above it all,  because I myself am a sports nut.

wow - I was on my way out on an errand and checked in on the half-time score of down 12 and wrote this one off as 'on the road and rusty.'

It didn't look good at the half.  Michigan played a sloppy first half, and Wisconsin played, and especially shot, very well.  Very different game in the second half, with Michigan outscoring Wisconsin by 20 points.

Sure didn't take long to scrape the rust off.

Unfricking believeable how good this team is.  Michigan vs. OSU game was really tight and Michigan emerges.

Great game, Dickinson and Brown both came up  huge in the 2nd half.   Really impressed that despite going 1/10 from 3 in the 2nd half Michigan was still able to win.

Fun game to watch.  I suspect we will see another matchup (or two) in March.

Huge win in the realm of the subhumans.  Ohio State played very very well.  Despite the high scoring, Michigan appeared to be playing its usual great defense, but the *uckeyes just shot the lights out on three-pointers, and made quite a few circus shots at the rim.  And Ohio State's defense looked solid, too, but Michigan's offense beat it.

Go Blue!

This team is so good.  They are murdering an elite conference opponent every three or so days.

We could go undefeated against Indiana for another 30 yrs and it still wouldn't be enough payback for the Bobby Knight era.

With the incoming class they're getting next year's team should be even better, particularly if Dickinson comes back.   They could be even scarier.

edit: I decided to check some various 2021 big boards and Dickinson is way down on the list, I guess that's not a surprise considering how the NBA game has moved away from Bigs that don't have an outside shot so I assume that means he will be returning.   Of course while checking those I see that Wagner is the one that has the 1st round grade.  So hopefully for our sake he returns as well.

I think Wagner is as good as gone.  Does Livers have another season if he wants it?

If Dickinson can get a reliable outside shot, or even a mid range shot, he could play in the NBA as at least a bench center.  Not sure it behooves him to come out after his freshman year, though.
