2021 NFL Draft...

I would take Mac Jones over Lance, and maybe over Fields. Close call.

I like Mac but we’ve had 12 years of a QB with limited mobility that can’t use his feet to make up for the lack of a good OL and run game.    I think this is a must have quality for the next Lions QB.

They have edge guys right now. I think they need to fix the interior of the defense, the dt's, lib's and even safety.

No they don't have edge guys. They get no pressure. They don't have any. They have warm bodies. That's not the same.

Romeo Okwara is good....assuming they keep him but I don't know about  anybody else unless you believe in his bro or Flowers.

okwara was ok last year.  flowers is ok too.  they also have okwara the younger who didnt play much last year but certainly looks the part.

but none of them are quick twitch guys who will get to the qb quickly.  they are more power guys who can contract the pocket.  they fit the pats' style.

i'd love for the lions to pick up any lind of dynamic pass rusher, be they an edge guy or a interior guy.  anybody.  please!  anyone who is an above average nfl athlete!

but most of all, i'd like to see them get an actual linebacker who can make a damn tackle that doesnt happen 7 yards downfield.  can we get some damn speed on this slow *** team please?

10 sacks seems nice. But if you go to the advance stats, something like QB pressures (sacks + hurries + knockdowns). He ranks 26th.

I don;'t see why we wouldn't pick/sign a player cause a guy is the 26th best. There's only 30 teams

Be careful about rooting for too much speed. That's how we ended up with Ernie Sims. Fast, fast enough to run right past the play

well you have to have some sense.  jarad davis is fast as all get out, but unless he's going right at the qb, he's going to get blocked or easily confused.

And Boss Bailey.  I definitely want more speed but not at a cost of football iq and instincts.

Best part is, Matthew Stafford has the best passer rating in the NFL when under pressure. His lack of mobility doesn't seem to be a problem.

There are no elite edge rushers at the top of this draft so I'd be hesitant to pick one simply out of necessity.

As much as I'm against taking a receiver in the top 10 especially since they already have a high end one that should have been locked up already, Smith and Chase are awfully special so I would be ok with it.

The Lions have so many needs so take BPA. Parsons or Fields/Wilson if one of them drop would be my preference. If Sewell magically dropped to 7, you run to the virtual podium to select him despite Decker already being locked up.

I feel the same about running to the podium if Parsons is there.

Keep putting 100% of your faith in those PFF numbers.   There is some truth in the Stat Padford nickname. His are skewed since so much production comes in garbage time.

With only 5 picks, the new GM will be finding places to trade back and acquire additional picks. They are not going to settle with just 5 player from this draft.   I know it’s talked about every year but I’d expect this as a real possibility at 7 especially if Fields and Lance are still on the board and the Lions aren’t interested.   If they make a pick at 7, then I’d expect them to be open to trade back calls on all the rest after.

do you have any evidence to back up the notion that stafford gets any more of his production in "garbage time" than any other nfl qb?

and when you play on the detroit lions, a lot of your time as their qb is spent in garbage time...

Well no, it's not PFF number. It's QB rating which has been around since before PFF.

If it were so easy to pad stats, every QB would do it.

I think everybody agrees with that. But, what we're disagreeing with is this idea that we have decent enough pass rushers so let's focus on other positions. Every positions on the defense sucks and if you have a chance to upgrade it, do it.

Careful what you wish for.  I agree it's time to move on as well but to say Stafford isn't good is Insane.  He's a fantastic QB but needs a clean pocket

Also, Stafford has turned a lot of “garbage time” into comeback wins.

I'll have to try and find it again but there was a stat floating around out there from 2018 (I believe) that showed Stafford's two most production quarters from a scoring standpoint were the 1st and the 4th.

the 4th?  when he led the league in 4th quarter comeback wins a few years ago?

Most of what you say is correct. But, there ARE 32 teams
