2021 NFL Draft...

I totally think Golladay quit and I'm not sure how that helps him get more cash from the Lions or any other team. Who wants to pay big money to a guy that quits on his team?

True. OTOH, Quinn did not want to pay big money to a guy who balled out.

Rumors are Quinn offered Golladay an annual amount equal to the franchise tag. That's a pretty fair deal. If I'm another team, I'm not paying Golladay to be the highest paid receiver in the league if he quit on his team.

Looking at the current draft board and the QB situations of teams in the league if we stay at 11 I think we should wait, even if you're in the camp of wanting to draft a QB.

Reason being it's a simple case of supply and demand.  Currently there are currently 6 QBs who have 1st round grades by most pundits(Lawrence, Fields, Jones, Wilson, Lance, Trask) yet I don't necessarily see 6 teams that would spend a 1st round pick on a QB in this draft so we should be able to get one of them in the 2nd round.

Jets and Jags for sure.

Indy, Pittsburgh, Bears, VIkings, Panthers, Atlanta. Denver. Raiders, Patriots, WFT. And there could always be a surprise like the Saints or 49ers.

I see way more than 6

I agree I think he quit as well.

I have no idea if he quit or not.   We should find out shortly.    The team is serious about changing culture and if Kenny made a business decision and shut it down himself, they will let him walk and won’t even bother to negotiate.  If they sign him to a deal or more likely tag him, I think it would be safe to believe that he really can’t go and didn’t go rogue.

As for other teams caring how he behaves here,  I’m not sure that matters.   This franchise is the laughingstock of the league.  Not only for on field performance but how badly they have botched player evaluation and development.  I think everyone that played here gets some type of pass from the rest of the NFL regarding their stay in Detroit and usually gets another shot somewhere else to prove if they really can play or not.

golladay will get lots of offers if he hits the market.  jets and jags will have new qbs and will be looking to surround them with talent.  they wont care that he sat out half the season.

in fact, its probably better for golladay if they think he sat out for contract reasons.  if he's got some lingering real injury that could flare up again, that could actually hurt his value.

Of course he will get lots of offers. The Lions will probably still franchise him, but why would a team make him among the highest paid receivers in the league if he quit on his team? Why would they assume he isn't going to quit after he gets a boatload of guaranteed money?

Is there proof that he quit on the team? Unless you're a team doctor that knows the true extent of the injury, it's an accusation based on nothing.

Watching the Peach Bowl right now and I'm really liking the Cincinnati QB.  I personally don't want to take a QB unless Staff forces his way out but if the Lions are indeed **** bent on the proverbial QB of the future he could be somebody to keep an eye on, particularly since I don't think it would take a 1st round pick to get him.

I agree to a certain extent. If the money they have to give him could get us a productive receiver in FA, let him go. Could we count on him? Find someone with a history of staying healthy. And keep Marvin and Matthew. This team mostly needs a good defense. Concentrate on making it better.

Marvin is leaving.  He is looking for a team that has a chance of winning.  I'm on Golladay's side.  Pay him or let him sit.  He has earned that next payday.

1) golladay totally quit.

2) golladay and marvin and every other nfl player will go to whatever team pays them the most money.

I’m not saying he’s going to take noticeably less.  And with the way NFL contracts are structured it’s tough to say what is more or less until the contract is complete.  I’m saying I think he knows what he’s getting into in Detroit and would be happy to find another team.  Perhaps one that can win a few games.  If the Lions will overpay then of course he’ll be back, but given they won’t pay Golladay I don’t see any way they offer enough to bring Jones back.

The Lions do have a lot of free agents, and they need to take their lumps this year and allow some of their top free agents go, like Romeo Okwara whom I believe will hit it big in free agency; perhaps landing the Lions with a 3rd round comp pick next year. I don't believe that Marvin would be eligible for free agent compensation, so the big two are Golladay and Okwara. The Lions have some depth at DE (I don't think they need to be chasing sacks), although they have no WR's, this year is loaded with receivers. I don't like the DL coming out this year. The two Miami ends are the best of the lot. A lot of the d-tackles are similar players, longish 6-5 305 types with good movement. Those guys seem to be a dime a dozen, and they are usually overdrafted. It's a good year for linebacker, pretty deep at corner, and I really like the group of safeties coming out. Of course we will need to wait for the results of the combine before grades are given out.

Oh, and yeah, this is the best year for Quarterbacks ever. Better than 1983.

Some players that I think are under the radar and could have some value for the current Lions (in no particular order):

1. Julian Okwara DE

2. Hunter Bryant TE

3. Austin Bryant DE

4. C.J. Moore S

5. Bobby Price S

6. Matt Nelson RT

7. Logan Stenberg RG

8. Kevin Strong DT

Basically, these are the types of players the Lions need to fill their roster with next year, as they accrue more draft capital.  This needs to be blown up.

Pull a Steelers and spend the entire draft on defense. Or we could address the offensive line and defensive line.

so you're saying we're going to take the best fullback available?

Hey, the Vikings FB had a 30 yard gain against the Lions yesterday, so let’s get on that FB bandwagon!

Picking a WR at #3 would be great. I do think we are in a position to pick the best player available, and maybe that is a WR. It would be something else to have had our last 4 top 4 picks be TE, TE, CB, WR and not a single DE/pass rusher in the bunch when we've clearly needed one each time.

I think Devonta Smith is a special player, and should be on the Lions short list at 7. Others to consider (if Stafford is staying, and we don't need a QB) include Micah Parsons, Rousseau/Phillips and JaMarr Chase.

If we are going WR I like Chase and Waddle over Smith. I wouldn't be completely against WR because we will be in desperate need of one come next year when both Golladay and Jones are gone. I'm in the QB camp as of now with one of Fields/Lance/Wilson. I expect Lance or Wilson to be the guys available when we're picking at #7. If the new Front Office doesn't like any of the QB options available then I'm probably looking at one of the edge guys like Kwity Paye or Gregory Rousseau.

If the Lions franchise Golladay, could they get a 1st round pick for him on a trade? Probably a late 1st rounder? I feel Golladay would have the same value as a Brandin Cooks or Amari Cooper who both got 1st round picks. Maybe draft a WR and trade Golladay and use some of his cap space to sign a #2. I'm not sure, however, would the cap hit would be with trading a franchised player though.
