2021 NFL Draft...

I know this isn't necessarily a fair thing to do but if you look back at WR's taken in the top 10 the past 15 years you will see that it's not good at all.

2017: Corey Davis Mike Williams John Ross

2015: Amari Cooper Kevin White

2014: Sammy Watkins Mike Evans

2013: Tavon Austin

2012: Justin Blackmon

2011: Julio Jones AJ Green

2009: Darius Heyward-Bay  Michael Crabtree

2007: Calvin Johnson  Ted Ginn

There's the obvious exceptions of Calvin, Julio and AJ Green but boy outside of them and  Evans none of those guys really lived up to their draft pick and in many instances were straight up busts.   Of course I'm too lazy to do this with every position so perhaps they all have the same ratio of hits and misses, I just did it with WR cause I saw somebody on twitter mention how many WR busts there were and the dangers of taking one early so I had to see for myself.

i think you could do this with every position.  its the same thing with quarterbacks.  for every deshaun watson there is mitch trubisky.  for every patrick mahomes there is sam darnold.

the nfl draft can be pretty crapshooty.

Mock draft bonanza today during my lunch break. I did two mocks, one with trades and one without trades, trying to be as realistic as I could with the trades in the second mock. I would have taken Trey Lance in either mock, but I don't think the organization is going to so I passed on him.

Mock Draft #1: No Trades

I passed on Trey Lance, Micah Parsons, and Devonta Smith and went with Jaylen Waddle in the first. Jamar Chase was picked by the Eagles prior to the Lions picking. I debated Lance, Parsons and Waddle and did what I think the organization would do, which is not take a QB. I personally would take Lance and trade Goff for picks, but I don't think Holmes is doing that.

Mock Draft #2: With Trades

I firmly believe Holmes is going to be busy making trades on draft day and expect the Lions to trade out of the #7 spot.

I don't want him on the Lions.

If there’s not another side to the story, I agree.

I think Bucky is a good source here.

Traded down twice in the 1st cause the way the board fell there were multiple guys i liked equally so I figured I'd get more capital.  Didn't necessarily want to go tackle and qb 1,2 but I felt the value was too good to pass up,  same with Nike at 154.   So I got this plus Denver's 1st next year(brutal division so should be a good pick) and the 49ers 2nd.

This is without trades, with the way it fell i definitely would have traded out of the first spot cause I don't love Waddle but since I wanted to do a straight draft I had to take him.   I really like Chazz at 88 so to me that was the best pick.

I went a little nuts with trades including trading Golladay to NYG for a 3rd and 5th.

Trade down a few more times and pick up a new starting 22.

Lions are sitting there at #7 and you're told by Sheila you have to pick a receiving target (WR or TE) and all four of Chase, Pitts, Smith, and Waddle are available. What does the draft order on your personal big board look like and who are you taking?

1. Ja'Marr Chase

2. Jaylen Waddle

3. Devonta Smith

4. Kyle Pitts

If Chase is somehow sitting there at #7, I think you're tripping over yourself to call that pick in as fast as possible.

Todd McShays latest Mock draft has the lions taking Chase at 7.   QBs going 1-4.

It would take less than 1 second to put Chase’s name of the card.  It’s not even that close really.

Waddle would be an easy #2 choice for me it wouldn’t be that close either.

I don’t think Smith skills are going to transfer to warrant that high of a selection.   I’d take Pitts over him even though I still don’t think it’s very good use of draft capital to take another TE just 2 years after Hock.

Whatever about Pete Werner but like Jeremiah hyping this LB class.  We already know WR is super strong this year so two of the biggest immediate needs for the Lions are deep.

I love what Holmes has done so far, but if he drinks the koolaid and gets Lionized we'll draft Pitts in the 1st and reach for a Safety in the 2nd.
