2021 NFL Draft...

Recommended Posts

I did an all trades mock tonight on PFF using their mock draft simulator and finagled my way into 3 1sts and 3 2nd round picks. This is not at all realistic, in any way, but it still makes for a good time on a cold and snowy day.

Rousseau sucks. Did I already say that? I prefer other edge players in this draft. He lacks explosion.

Are Rousseau's monster numbers, with 15.5 sacks in a single season, simply explained away by him facing bad talent in the ACC and being schemed into mismatches against inferior lineman?

Yes, 100%. He gets most of his sacks from the interior, which is a big difference in talent going to be NFL. He lacks explosion, and is very raw. Very thin, but great frame. He's a long term prospect, and a very risky one.

Given his height (6'7 I believe), length, and upright playing style, I was reading that he compares to Calasis Campbell who himself is in the 6'7 range. If he develops into the type of player Campbell is than I'm willing to wait and watch him develop. It isn't as if we are going to be good next year anyways. We can afford for him to mature along.

He's much thinner than Campbell, who's a man-beast. Rousseau is rail-thin.

This is such a bad take.  The only real knock against him isn’t lack of explosion, it’s lack of tape.  He was injured one year and sat out another.  There’s just not much to judge but what is there is impressive.  He is far from a finished product and is really just scratching the surface.  He is an explosive athlete that player WR and S in high school.   He has a frame that can put on weight.  I think he would be amazing value in the late teens

This is a much better take.

He is raw but has huge potential (I’m not saying the U word).

JOK is my latest draft crush.  If the top 3 WRs are gone I think he would be my choice.

I’m a big fan of him as well.   I’d love a trade down to get additional picks and get JOK.

I personally don’t really see it as a Big 3 WR class.  Chase is 1 all alone by a good margin.    I like Waddle next but have a few concerns based on his injury.  Smith is a non-draft for me where he’s predicted.  I’m concerned about his size and lack of high end speed.  He’s a great college player but I’m not sure how he’s going to get open consistently to justify his draft position.

I share those same concerns about Smith's size but I'm gonna put my trust in people that know a lot more than I do and from everything I've read they seem to think that his size won't be an issue.   Chase is definitely my top WR though.

If we're staying at #7 and not picking a QB than Parsons, Chase, and Waddle are the guys I want. I wouldn't be upset if they took one of the Offensive Tackles because Vaitai stinks as a starting Tackle, but I would feel underwhelmed with the pick. Picking another Corner or taking Kyle Pitts are really the only picks they could make that I'd be totally against.

I can see it now though, they'll select Pitts and we'll have to listen to 6 months of Doug Karsch and the koolaid brigade justifying the pick in any number of ways. They'll be telling us how Pitts really isn't a TE, why position doesn't really matter, how he has incredible versatility and athleticism, and how he'll be a mismatch that creates problems. I can't wait for the "Pitts isn't really a true TE but TE's take two years to develop conversation" and the "think of the two TE sets with him and Hockenson!!!!!"

i would love to have chase.  i would understand if they took a qb.  i wouldnt be unhappy if they took a tackle.

im not sure there is a defensive prospect worth the #7 pick.  parsons maybe if you think he's going to be more khalil mack than leonard floyd.

I pulled the trigger this past week and put in a deposit on season tickets. Been on my mind since I moved back to the area and finally just told myself to do it now while there is no misses to tell me no. I'm hoping not to be one of those lifetime STHs that is around for 50 years to see a single playoff game but also know this move comes to with the formal title of "hapless".

Hopefully there can be fans too LOL

Sigh, safe but very effective. You can never have too many good offensive lineman, especially at the bookend positions. Drafting Sewell will only make the running game that much better and make Goff a better QB with more play action, time to throw, and time to look off multiple reads. I wouldn't take Sewell over playmakers like Chase, Waddle, Smith or Parsons but I understand why the Lions would.

i'd be fine with that draft.  especially sewell at 7 and harris lasting into the third.  would like to see a receiver at some point but this team has so many needs on defense its hard to pass anyone up.

I would love it if Sewell lasts until 7, but I can't imagine any scenario in which the team takes a RB but not a WR.

Mel Kiper came out with his latest mock, first time ever he has included trades in it and boy did he have quite a few of them in the top 10.  He had the Falcons trading up to number 2,  the 49ers trading up to our spot and the Patriots trading up to 9.

He has the 9ers trading up to our spot to take Fields and the Patriots trading up to get Lance, he also has the Panthers taking Mac Jones at 8 so the big 5 QBs would all be gone by the 9th pick.

Has us taking Parsons with the 49ers pick.   He speculated that it would take the 49ers 1st, 2nd and another pick, didn't specify what the  "another pick"  would be but said he "wouldn't be shocked" if they also include a 2022 first to get it done.

So essentially we'd be walking away with Micah Parsons and an extra 2nd and 2022 1st.  That would be amazing!

I know this isn't necessarily a fair thing to do but if you look back at WR's taken in the top 10 the past 15 years you will see that it's not good at all.

2017: Corey Davis Mike Williams John Ross

2015: Amari Cooper Kevin White

2014: Sammy Watkins Mike Evans

2013: Tavon Austin

2012: Justin Blackmon

2011: Julio Jones AJ Green

2009: Darius Heyward-Bay  Michael Crabtree

2007: Calvin Johnson  Ted Ginn

There's the obvious exceptions of Calvin, Julio and AJ Green but boy outside of them and  Evans none of those guys really lived up to their draft pick and in many instances were straight up busts.   Of course I'm too lazy to do this with every position so perhaps they all have the same ratio of hits and misses, I just did it with WR cause I saw somebody on twitter mention how many WR busts there were and the dangers of taking one early so I had to see for myself.
