The point is winning the game in regulation if they get the ball back and score the TD. They had the score the TD either way. If they miss the two point conversation, they still set themselves up for a tie with a two point conversation.

no.  if they kick the extra point, then they need to score a td and can decide whether to go for two or not to win it or go into overtime (assuming they dont eff up the extra point).  going for two then does nothing but take that off the table if you dont get it.

bingo.

Why not go for 2 every first TD then, just in case you get to a late game situation where you could win by a point?

well that would be crazy!!!!!!  lol.

in the end it doesnt matter, mb.  they lost.  again.

because matt's defense couldnt stop the saints and get the ball back.

and the lions have now lost 6 straight games in which they've had a double digit lead.  thats amazing.

They decided to go for the win on that possession. They were only going to get one more possession. If they miss the two point conversion on the last possession, they lose the game. If they miss the two point conversion on this possession, they still have a chance to tie.

I think the idea is statistically it’s better to go for 2 in that scenario because of the success rate of 2 point conversions in general and the idea that you are significantly more likely to get one than fail both.  It does come with a greater risk of losing in regulation than kicking but gives a significant improvement to the odds of winning.

people complain because patricia loses.  if he's aggressive, he loses.  if he's conservative, he loses.

win and they wont complain.

well...tater will still complain.  :)

Nah, he himself loses, loses and then loses so more.

Guys, as much as I would like to argue about the two point conversion decision, the math supports the move they made. I’m not going to get into it any more than that because the amount I care about it has run out.

There is plenty of writing on this subject that I would just be repeating what you can read elsewhere.

most worringly for the lions is that stafford doesnt look like he did last year before he got hurt.  he looks off.  he had a decent game statistically and had a few nice throws, but he missed some deep balls and got bailed out a couple times by nice plays from his receivers.

this team cant win without stafford playing almost perfectly.

When the Book says its time for Stafford to go you know it's time for him to go .. hes been a stafford slappy for 10 years.

It's a sad time to be a Lions fan for me anyways - Sure I know they suck and always will but never miss a game and Stafford has been fun to watch for 10 years - he absolutely blows right now and there may be 20+ Starting QBs better

This is astonishing. And justification for Patricia to be dismissed immediately.

It was absolutely the right decision.

People need to understand this is a Dagger Time football team now!

When the 4th quarter comes they are always going for the kill shot.  It’s an aggressive new mentality that comes straight from the Head Coach and Quarterback and it doesn’t settle for just trying to get the game to OT.

I know you're being snarky but it was the right call.

any other comments on the state of the team other than to defend patricia and the lions about one particular decision that ultimately played no role in the outcome of the game?

Nope. I avoided all the whining and bitching here during the game. Patricia is a bad coach but it's ok to acknowledge when he made a good call.

I know it’s like the Lion version of a dumb Dad joke that gets repeated every year in the game before the bye but let me be the first of many to let you know that at least they can’t blow it next week!

I would like to see the NFL just do away with extra point anyway.      And if you attempt a 2 point conversion and either throw a pick or fumble to the other team THEY get the 2 points.

By the way............Patricia has a clause in his contract that he gets paid an extra 100K for every Scorigami he gets.

Travis Fulgham with the game winning touchdown for the Eagles!

The guy we cut to keep Jamal Agnew...because we had to cut Jason Huntley...to keep Ty Johnson...who we just cut so we could keep Adrian Peterson.  Or something.

Do you guys still get worked up at the Lions' ineptitude? Been following them since '72. I still allow .0004% of my mind to retain some hope in the franchise. Mostly I don't gaf and expect to one day die having never seen a contending Lions team. I keep following them but expect nothing more than crap.

There was a time when the Pittsburgh Steelers were the joke of the NFL.   They never won anything for over 30 years and then they hired the right person and it worked - so it's possible.   They just have to hire the right person.

The Ford’s aren’t the Rooney’s. It took Dan succeeding his father to hire a Chuck Noll

So you're starting to lose faith in the Rocket Science Defense?
