Is Verlander still trying to reconcile the difference between the minor leaguer that he jumped on for beating a spouse/friend (which I don't necessarily have a problem with) and his Astros acquiring Roberto Osuna?

I think this is another one of those things that is technically against the rules but everyone does it.

This is probably true.  We've heard that hitters prefer pitchers use something to get grip on the ball, especially in colder weather, to reduce the risk of getting an errant fastball to the head.  Now, maybe that scale slides to a lower percentage as the weather heats up, that wouldn't be surprising.  But it does seem as though there is a mutual bending of the rules there.

true, where does what sounds like reformulated rosin fall after baseball itself started letting guys lick their fingers?

Maybe baseball needs to add something to the Delaware mud that they use to rub on the baseballs before the game to help with grip?

Just going to leave this here for poops and giggles.  One of my favorite hall of famers.

this.  it's well known that both Perry and Niekro were doctoring the ball.  'Cheating' is a slippery slope.  Steroids weren't even on a banned substance list when McGwire, Sosa, etc... were using, so you could make the argument that their offense was less egregious than the Hall of Fame pitchers who were actively doctoring balls to their advantage.

My issue with Justin is that he was so outspoken about "cheating," unlike Scherzer.

Max has always been the cooler of the two.

Watching Fox Sports Detroit knowing that I could quite possibly see: “FSD welcomes Matt Shepard and Jack Morris back to the booth for the 2021 season” scroll across the bottom of the screen any day now.

OK, this is NSFW, immature and not about the Tigers, but it's hilarious.

If I'm an Angels fan, I am probably less than thrilled that someone who works for my team was giving opposing pitchers substances to help them do better against my team.

Along with the lame "well my job was hospitality so I felt it was my duty" excuse. No, you did it because they paid you.

Or it argues that it was so ordinary a service that anyone could have done for them that nobody cared. I guess I would want to understand if this was being done under the table or out in the open, i.e. unofficially known about and ignored or not.

From what I gathered, he was one of maybe a few guys who knew how to make this stuff. I don't know what was special about it. But I'm sure the org knew what they had and probably wouldn't care for him making it for the other team.

I think in the end it worked out for the best. A domed stadium is a terrible waste of a riverfront. An open design like PNC works OK but that wasn't what they were proposing.

I agree but it's a neat piece of history. There was a plan for dual stadiums in Pontiac with a roof that would slide over each stadium. The Tigers backed out and the Lions pressed ahead with the Silverdome. Even as late as 1972, Detroit was a contender for the Olympics and finished runner up in both 1964 and 1968. Certainly an Olympic Stadium would have been repurposed for either the Lions or Tigers or both. Joe Louis Arena ended up in about the same spot. The dome could have functioned as part of a Cobo expansion. I imagine the Tigers would have been gone from that dome by now.

It would have been a piece of **** stadium, too. Look at the other stadia baseball teams built around the same time. ****, just look at the Silverdome. That's basically what it would have been.

So, anyway: Liam Hendriks to the White Sox. Those guys are not ****ing around.

Between the rise of the Sox and the self-inflicted punch in the dick the Cubs have given themselves this offseason, coupled with the Ricketts' kissing up to Trump, I know of at least thee people who are moving their allegiances to the south side, and they will not be the last ones in this town to do that.

I don't know what you're talking about. Do the Cubs even employ a guy named Dick?

I don't have the time to dick around googling this. Maybe us dicks can throw our money together and hire a dick to investigate.

It's "we dicks", not "us dicks".

i know 0 cubs fans who are moving their allegiance to the trash side of town.  most baseball fans dont even know what sinclair broadcasting is or care who the owner's family sides with in politics.

i doubt the cubs will be hurting for fans any time soon.  they may be hurting for wins, but not for fans.

Two of the guys I know considering defection are season-ticket holders.

The Cubs have already let two STH payment deadlines skate by because people are bailing like crazy, mostly because they are self-immolating on the field, but also Ricketts/Trump.
