I don't think a ****ty team/organization like ours should be taking the moral high ground if we can improve our team.  Hire Hinch, who is the best available managerial candidate, and have him help bring in Springer, who might be the best offensive player in free agency. Fills a need.

George Springer is just upton part 2.

Not what's needed for a rebuilding team. (not to mention he'd be a corner outfielder with one of 7 seasons with an OPS above .900, career wise he's bascially Candy. Not the type of 31 year old you hand out $100 million contracts to and have a good 7 years from)

yeah, it probably wouldn't be wise to sign a player like Springer for big money at this point.  He's not a long-term building block.  He is someone that a good team that needs one more piece might take a chance on.

a lesser player, but maybe a better fit is Jurickson Profar. Former #1 prospect. Switch hitter that draws walks, and plays everywhere. Turns 28 in February. Play him at 2b. If Willi or Parades end up there, Profar can move to LF.

making a lot of assumptions here.  no one is suggesting a $100 million or 7 year contract.  With the COVID impact, no one knows what free agent contracts will look like in terms or money or length.  Only stating that he is a good fit--still young(ish) and would not be blocking anyone.  The tear down is over--time to start building back up, and I'd target an OF and SS via free agency over the next few offseasons.

Agree though that we should not pursue any foolish contracts--also, would not surrender a top draft pick to acquire a free agent this year.

No different from Pudge.

No different from most of the top free agents most years,  I would probably get excited if they signed Springer, but realistically it's probably not a good idea.  There is a big difference between signing one of the multiple 26-28 year old shortstops available after 2021 and a 31 year old outfielder.  I'd be all in on the shortstops, but very cautious on Springer.

I agree with some points in here, but if you think your getting the top free agent for 1 year $5 million cause of COVID, well I got a bridge to sell you. He's still gonna cost a ton as that's why i included his offensive numbers, they ain't that great.

True but we can do that with other players that won't cause trouble in the clubhouse nor paint a bulls eye on the organization. l have read many players prefer not to play with these Astros. Just not worth the headache.

sounds like the White Sox are announcing Tony LaRussa tomorrow.

lol.  just when you think the sox are getting smart, they go and dig tony larussa up from the grave because he coached them 35 years ago.

biggest jerry reinsdorf move since getting harold effing baines into the hall of fame.

I get what you're saying, but remember when the Tigers signed Kenny Rogers after shoving a camera man to the ground? Nobody cared when he started pitching well.

Don't you have to believe that if LaRussa actually wanted to be managing he would be?

Maybe he is so good he can build a winner even if he'd rather be doing something else - or nothing....

he wants to manage...but nobody wants him anymore.  he's been out of the game too long.

except the sox, who are loyal to an absolute fault.  i love it.

more interesting to me is the rumor that the indians are going to trade lindor and a few others and look to rebuild a la the sox with sale/quintana.  not to rain on all of our pipe dreams that the tigers were going to somehow sign lindor to play short after next season.

The Indians won’t get a big haul, even for Lindor.  He only has one year remaining on his contract.

they'll get more than they will after next year.

and the red sox were able to find a trade partner for mookie betts with one year left on his deal, i imagine the indians will be able to do the same with lindor.

Especially since Betts led the Dodgers to the Crown.

I suppose your right in that talent is talent and we need all we can get but who likes the media anyways.

Our family had a really great dog back in the '80's and '90's.  He was a Springer.

We had a mutt named Susie. Started eating her own sh*t and got sick and died. I sorta blame myself as I used to pray that Yankees fans would eat sh*t and die. Could also be due to bad karma for my hatred of Wilson Phillips. Or maybe she just ate sh*t and died all on her own. RIP Susie. Of course you died in 1970 so you've probably been reincarnated. If so I hope you're not a Yankees fan. Give me a call after COVID is under control

Whether it's to rebuild or retool on the fly, I think they will try to move him also.
