He is considered an upcommer for a few years now. Worked in the minors then assistant hitting coach before getting the main job a couple years ago.

hasn't fixed Gary Sanchez, but lots of other guys have flourished under him

Cool article about Greene even if it may be a bit of a fluff piece.

What I found interesting was the part about him being in the Spring Training lineup cause Chris Ilitch was in attendance and he insisted that he wanted to watch him play.

Idk I just think that's a good sign if he actually pays that close attention to our prospects. Maybe he is more engaged in the team than we think.

back when we were able to go out to eat, i went to a lunch place here in downtown chicago.  just a burger/salad/sandwich joint.  nothing terribly upscale but certainly not a diner.  more of a bar.  i usually get a burger.

i was looking at the menu and they had a bottle of kim crawford that i can get at the grocery store for $12 on sale for $70!

your sentence post reminded me of that...

I know AA is safe but Chris jut might want to inquire about this guy.

The last hire from the Marlins worked out fairly well. (Yes I know AA has the Marlins in his pedigree

More about Hill's tenure with the Marlins here.

What catches my eye is:

Quote

One common thread throughout Hill’s time with the Marlins has been the team’s knack for drafting and developing young talent, though time after the time, this pipeline was undercut by Loria making ill-advised trades and major signings.  Compounding the problem was Loria’s tendency to immediately lose faith in his team after failing to experience immediate success, which led to the front office having to then figure out how to cut costs and start over with another rebuild.  The fact that the Marlins were actually able to generate a good core group of young talent multiple times over (both under Loria and under Jeter) is perhaps of a hint of what Hill could achieve if he was able to run a more normal front office environment.

Hill is only 49 years old, and given his respected reputation around baseball, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him emerge as a candidate for one of the open GM/president of baseball operations jobs this offseason.

Seems like a guy to bring in and talk about what he wants to do going forward.  Maybe shake up the hierarchy a bit, add a role within the front office for him, something to include him into the organization, see if there is mutual interest.  This could be the best offseason move that the Tigers could make.

Al is the GM right? You can always create a desk at team President.

I'm guessing Al would be none too pleased to have someone watching over his shoulder. I like it.

AA is a VP of Operations for the Tigers. DD was President and CEO, there seems to be no one with that title on the current operations tree...

Just some organizational structure difference, nothing to read too much into. DD was the top guy who everybody went through to ownership. AA is one of five departments thats answers to ownership. Neither way is better over another one. It's often just a matter of titles.

Probably. DD was hired to replace John Hale. He didn’t take over as GM until after the 2002 season started when he had seen enough of Randy Smith and Phil Gardner.

the marlins arent very good, why would we want someone from their management team as opposed to the devil rays or dodgers?

The Marlins have drafted and/or developed a lot of young talent though, they have just been too cheap to keep said talent and/or traded them away too soon neither of which is a fault to Hill.

It seems a lot of "the Marlins aren't very good" falls back on meddling and penny pinching ownership, particularly during the Loria days.  At least that's what I inferred from the article.

All it took was an 0-6 start.

But it stands to reason.  Its pretty well known that Loria was a craptastic owner.
