The game is actually in Detroit.  All of those poor cardboard cutouts are going to drive to Cleveland only to find out they are at the wrong ball park.

If the Tigers win today and the Jays lose, the Tigers will be 3.5 games out of a playoff spot going in to the next to last Sunday of the season. Just like 1987.

8 games under .500.  Just like 1987.

Killer blow for JV.  I'm sure he's going to be done till atleast 2022 and at his age who knows how he's going to look coming back.  Can anybody think of another pitcher that had it this late in his career?   I can't think of any off the top of my head.

Complete opposite, Gardy announces his retirement effective today, Legendary Lloyd takes over.  Crazy.  I hope everything is ok with him.  I know he was sick a couple weeks ago, hopefully they didn't find something serious or anything.

My guess is he wanted an extension, was told no, and decided why stick around for a week under the current circumstances.

I could drive up there and cover tomorrow’s game.  But I’m a little too busy for the rest of the season.

Or they could just grab the Leyland cardboard cutout from the stands.

Gardy says that he really hasn't felt quite right since that bout of food poisoning a couple weeks ago, couple that with the stress of the job and he thought it was time to step away and concentrate on getting healthy again.

I don't know with the way he worded everything it seems like he isn't necessarily hanging up managing for good, more that he has felt like crap for a few weeks and since his contract is up at the end of the year he doesn't want to suffer it out or risk getting sicker for the last week.

Hopefully he gets to feeling better.  Can’t really blame him for walking away before season’s end because of health concerns.  On the contrary, that’s commendable.

I agree. He came here knowing these teams, each season, would struggle. A real baseball man who will be missed. I wish him nothing but the best of luck and health.

Now the search begins, and I imagine the job has to be decently attractive given the young talent and some money to blow.

I hope Gardenhire is OK.

I don't have any preference for a new manager.  I like the saber types, but a lot of times they don't seem to work out any better than the old guys that love sacrifice bunts, spit tobacco and use curse words in every sentence.  It's all about the players.

As long as he can handle a pitching staff properly I really don't care who it is.   I don't want another Ausmus who will leave a rookie in to throw nearly 50 high stress pitches in one inning like he did with Norris.

They should hire Lloyd permanently so I can watch this site explode.

The Tigers have a lead over Cleveland.  2020 is just so damn weird.
