How many candidates has Al Avila interviewed thus far? Who’s got the advantage to become the next Tigers manager? I’m going to be very disappointed if Avila hires AJ Hinch or Alex Cora.

I think he was being as PC as he could about Cora and Hinch  - I don't think we can draw much from "he's on the list" when he pretty much said that at this point everyone was on the list.

I though his comments on the need for a manager to be able to evaluate his player honestly was interesting. It makes me wonder if Ausmus is part of the reason behind that. I often felt Ausmus failed to manage to his players limitations and so to often set them up to fail. I know that is an unfair charge to make when you are dealing with a pretty bad team where too many guys can't do anything you ask them to, but none the less I still felt that way more than not about Brad.

I believe Brad Ausmus didn’t get along with David Price. I remember Ausmus removing Price from a game in Detroit and Price just walked down a tunnel and inside the Tigers clubhouse. Ausmus was looking for Price in the dugout and Verlander was sent to find out the whereabouts of Price. Verlander tells Ausmus Price has left the ballpark. I can’t remember the specific date or Detroit‘s opposition that day. We all know Price became a malcontent after coming to Detroit and continued in Toronto and Boston. Price and Dennis Eckersley had a verbal confrontation on a character flight.

I remember one of Price's first starts with the TIgers he was laboring big time, didn't have his best stuff yet Ausmus kept him in there and allowed him to throw like 50 high stress pitches one inning.  He never looked the same stuff wise the rest of the season after that.

I read Al will be interviewing Lombard and that's the only one I've heard so far

Lombard's headshot picture on bbref features the Detroit Tiger hat.  This might go a long way with any stats heavy organization.

He's wearing that hat on his Hall of Fame plaque too.

He didn't play the required ten years, but I think they'll make an exception for him.

Some HOF voters will think he is related to Vince Lombardi and vote for him. Should be close

Being the Tigers manager prob makes you want to smoke or indulge in sugary stuff to help with stress levels so getting plaque is an exceptable answer as well.

Wow, George Lombard has some really bad teeth there.  I don't think I want him as manager anymore.

It's from all the tobacco.  You want that in a manager.

You think Jimmy Leyland or Sparky had perfect teeth?

Actually Sparky had some fantastic teeth. It was weird. He sure as **** didn't sound like a guy with nice teeth.

When Ted Garvin coached the Toledo Goaldiggers, he threw his dentures on the ice at least once.

Ah, the Goldiggers...when I worked in Toledo, I heard about the legendary 10 and even 5 cent beer nights at the TSA....and the Slapshot-esque atmosphere that ensued.

Looks like we've started the offseason teeth thread. I recently lost a crown.
