Yeah, fair enough. I just hate Shep so much.

You shouldn't keep your feelings all bottled up like that.

5 games equals the longest win streak of last season.

I'll allow it.

16-16.

-21 run differential.

they are -23 in just their three worst losses. They still have enough bums on the pitching staff to lose big when they lose 😱

He's definitely the worst PBP guy I've heard.

Reasons for success:

  • Miggy with some improvement
  • Cando clicking
  • Romine good. Yanks wish they'd kept him
  • Boyd coming back
  • Schoop slugging
  • Our 5 LH's (Boyd, Scube, Soto, Alexander and Norris)
  • The injuries to Zim and Nova

Still better than Mario. Boston canned him after one year. Those fans demand better.

Somehow not even close to Mario's level.

They are +18 in their 3 biggest wins.

They are 6-1 in 1 run games.

That is the biggest reason they are 0.500 despite being -21 runs on the season.

Dan Dickerson does the "big moment" so well.   I don't have a problem with Mario and would welcome him back.   Shep's problem is that he thinks Jack Morris is a World Historical Genius.

And Mario is a replacement level broadcaster.

False. Mario was not considered replacement level in Boston.

This is fun again.

I thought Mario & Rod were really good.   Yes, they got cheesy, but a lot of announcers do.     I think Mario not being a "Boston Guy" had as much to do with his firing than anything else.   They are into that there,  like Michigan and their football coaches.

because:

  • A) Gardenhire > Ausmus/Leyland managing BPs
  • B) Avila > Dombrowski building BPs
  • C) SSS luck
  • D) All of the above.

I think they should extend Schoop a couple of years.  Unless they are moving Candelario or Paredes to 2nd base, I don't think they have a viable option there for the next couple of seasons.

I go back an forth on Shep. I'll listen to a game where I think he does OK, then the next day I think he's terrible. Probably it's because he is working with Morris recently and he is definitely terrible with Morris, not nearly as bad with Petry or Gibson.

Been said before but a lot of Mario's problem was Rod (and probably vice versa). On the few occasions he worked with someone else the broadcast was always better. There was apparently  just too much bad water between Mario and Rod for it not to affect their work.

But right now, even up I would take Mario back over Shep given that he would be not be working with Rod.

The answer is E) A and B, but not C.

Other than 2018, Schoop has been a fairly decent second baseman since his rookier year, and he will be only turning only 29 in the offseason.  You may not get much for on base percentage but hey, by todays standards, I will take his numbers any day of the week.  He appears to be a .750 OPS guy on the low end and an .840 OPS guy on the high end.  Given his age, I think you will get that for another 4-5 years.  Not bad at all for a second baseman.  I know we have to find a spot for Paredes and Candelario in the lineup but we are at the point where we shouldn't be dumping solid regulars to make room for a young guy.  If he is willing to sign long term for a reasonable amount of money, do it.

And to be honest, this is where Cabrera is going to be an issue.  If he hits like he has been the last week, it's no big deal.  If he reverts back to what he was for most of the month of August, or something in between, then he ties up the DH spot with minimal production in valuable at bats that could be going to another hitter.  That is going to be the big issue for the Tigers the next few years.
