8/10 @7:10 Chicago White Sox vs Detroit Tigers

Recommended Posts

The Tigers better score 8 or 9 runs with Fulmer starting.  It's sad but his career highlight will always be his rookie season.

For many pitchers the first year following recovery is at a lower level than pre-injury. From what I've read the second year is more telling as to what the pitcher has regained. So there is still hope

Has the Cardinals doubleheader been officially cancelled yet?  Looking likely?

That's when we'll likely see Mize for the first time.  Against a bunch of hitters who haven't seen live pitching in weeks.

way too early to make that assessment.  I don't think he'll be as good as he once was, but could still be a solid #4/5 guy.  Even if his highlight is his rookie year, his acquisition prevented us from signing Cespedes to a stupid contact.

Assuming he does get the physical end back 100%, which never a given, but for the sake of argument say he does, then he is basically where Turnbull was at the end of last year - a big arm pitcher that still needs to broaden his arsenal.

What happened to Funkhauser? Is he still on the team or did he get sent to the alternative training site?

These guys incur a lot of little injuries like I get but they’re for the the most part 40 years younger. Did the pudgy un-toned players of the past have the same frequency of these sorts of injuries? Or does improved media coverage have something to do with it? Of course they had shorter careers.

Has anyone heard anything on Zack Hesse? I thought I read he made the team but he hasn't pitched yet this year so obviously he didn't.

If he's healthy id like to see them give him a chance cause even though it was just a couple appearances I thought he looked lights out in the intra squad games and that stuff corresponded with some of the fluff pieces written about him this spring/summer.

it was odd--he was added to the camp, and then removed from it.  I don't believe he's in Toledo.

Based on offense alone, A. HR and RBI don't tell the whole story.

I'd guess B is a guy who racked up his counting statistics by sticking around much longer. The value of that is a debate to be had but I'll take the player who had better rate statistics over a shorter period. The team could have benefited by replacing him with another good hitter rather than letting him add to his HR and RBI total while being less of an overall hitter.

Who was the better former White Sox player?

A.

or

B.

Judging by that alone I'd say the top guy.  Better rate stats and produce just as much wins in way fewer time.  Btw without looking is one of them Maggs?

They also played at different time periods.  No one is going to claim that the ball was juiced in the late 1970s and early 1980s when Baines broke in.

Sheesh. Lots of defenders for the second worst pitcher on the team.

I give the nod to Maggs based solely on the last pitch of the '06 ALCS

I'm a little surprised JaCoby isn't sitting this one out
