Gardenhire said as much when he said we would be playing "whitey" on Monday.

I'm a middle aged white guy and I recognize that he was framing the adversary.   Will the White Sox be wearing cargo shorts, polo shirts, sox and sandles?

No big deal, just a 1 in 3 chance of making the postseason as of this morning. Let’s definitely not call up Casey Mize tho because it might cost a few million bucks more in 2026.

The 2006 & 2012 World Series teams went 1-8 in those series.  Of course, this team will be the one to win the title.

Well  there is probably a decent chance that if neither Fulmer nor Norris pitches any better today than their 1st time out one or the other or both of them may have punched their ticket to Toledo. But then the question is whether they would bring up Mize or go with the a guy that it would be a more career defining test for like Faedo.

And does sending someone on the active list to the taxi squad require that player have an option?

Yes. It’s basically just AAA but without games against other teams.

I agree that this Fulmer/Norris rotation spot doesn’t seems like something built for the long haul. Or Tyler Alexander for that matter. Or Nova.

With the doubleheader against the cardinals being a question, there is still a good chance they don’t even need a fifth starter until next week. So, sure, not as much incentive to call him up until you need a fifth starter. I think we may have seen him up if our games hadn’t been canceled last week.

If the Tigers can hang in there the next week or so I think there is a good chance Mize will be called up.  By that point we'll be over a 1/3 of the way through the season and if we're still right in the thick of things there's going to be alot of pressure on the Tigers brass to call up some of the prospects, particularly if the pitching staff outside of Turnbull continues to struggle.

I feel about 99% certain he was supposed to pitch last Sunday prior to the cardinals series getting canceled. But when it looked likely that there wouldn’t be any games and the tigers would be able to reset their rotation, it’s hard to justify calling him up for one start and going through all of the other roster machinations that go along with it. ****, there is still the chance that the season ends up not being finished if a third/fourth team has a marlins/cards type outbreak.

So, it’s fine. But he needs to get the call at the first sign of needing another starting SP (whether that’s due to a doubleheader or failure by on of the six guys currently occupying a defined role in the rotation).

I like that there is a lot of excitement about the Tigers current record, but I think this week will be very telling as we start to play better teams.  For a team that his 3 games over .500, or run differential is pretty underwhelming.

As for Mize (and company), I would hate to sacrifice service time in a lost season.  I'm not sure what that threshold is, though--once we pass it, I'm all for bringing the kids up.  Although, I really think we're only talking about Mize--not sure Manning and Skubal are ready (Manning's control didn't look good during camp, and it sounds like COVID did a number on Skubal).  I don't see a need to rush Paredes with Candelario holding down 3B right now.

I also don't think Mize will be the difference maker, if we truly are a playoff contender.  He can only pitch every 5 days.

Without competition, how are Mize and company staying in shape?  Simulated games?  Intrasquad games?

in 2006, they won JV's starts at a 63% clip. If Mize did as well in 8 starts that would be 5 wins compared to say 2 or 3 if he replaced the worst current starter. So on the very optimistic assumption he is as good as a rookie as JV (who actually at least got his feet wet in an MLB park the previous year, an advantage Mize won't have), you are talking 2 or 3 wins. Multiply that by the 2.7 season factor and and that is still the equivalent of  5 to 7 wins in full season.

So I wouldn't say it's impossible he could make a difference, but he'd have to be ROY level good.

agree with that, but even ROY Mize and Turnbull are probably not enough.  And I'm less concerned with our pitching--I think our hitting will get exposed once we start facing major league pitchers.

fortunately the white sox dont have too many of those!

the sox can hit the crap out of the ball but have had some big injuries to the pitching staff.

and if you think christin stewart is bad in the field, wait until you see eloy jimenez!  he played a routine fly ball into an inside the park home run the other night.  and thats in addition to hurting himself multiple times trying to make plays in the outfield.

in less funny news, luis robert looks like the real deal.

Watched the White Sox last night and I noticed that All Star James Mccann is off to a great start.   He hit a bomb last night.

What is the super two cutoff day? I read something about it being 23-25 days into this truncated season in reference to an Orioles prospect.

The tigers were 7-20 in September last year. They went 5-20 in June. Also 5-20 in July.

They barely won more games in June 2019 than they did in June 2020.
