I saw a few write ups that had SS Luke Leto from Portage, MI as high as #3.

BA has him dropping due to poor showing in recent tourneys.

Leto struggled in the summer. House is probably the top HS prospect right now.

Jordan Lawlar is hi on most everyone's list as well

Obviously, it's early, and a lot can change, but I'd like to see Leiter drop to us.  We've gone heavy on offensive players the last couple of drafts.  Not all of Mize, Manning, Skubal, Wentz, Perez and Faedo will pan out (already seeing injury issues with four of them).  Getting another elite SP will help a ton.

I know you should never draft for need and just take the BPA but the system definitely needs some arms.  Yeah we have the 3 at the top but it gets barren real quick after those guys, especially with the injury to Wentz.    Plus we just haven't invested much in pitching the last 2 drafts.  In 2019 we didn't use any of our top 7 picks on pitchers and this year we didn't take any with our 6 picks.     So yeah I'm hoping it ends up being a pitcher who is the BPA at 3 and they go with that person.

I guess I'm in the BPA camp. They also desperately need position player depth. Most boards have Leiter a little lower. If he's BPA at 3 you take him.

FG has not moved in a while but Leiter is 1.

They need any high end talent.

They definitely need position depth as well but I'm a little more confident that they can find some bats via FA than I am good pitching.   Plus I think they are more likely to have a bat or two breakout in the system than pitching since they've gone so position heavy the past couple drafts.  Still think you go BPA but if the BPA is essentially a toss up between a pitcher or bat I'd probably lean towards the pitcher.

Tigers are in a nice position as Rocker and House will likely go 1 and 2. That means we can take or pick of everyone else wihtout much reason to think the guy we like goes 1 or 2. Since we've balanced our system in the last year, we can just take the guy we think will be best. I'm not sure Leiter fits for us, the LSU pitcher seems more likely, or a bat like Fabian

I'd rather go position player 1st round, and load up on pitchers rounds 2-5...

that is probably most llikely right now

Yeah, he potentially has all 5 tools and will stay at SS. House is more of a 3B and probably won't be able to run well but has great power.

Long way to go until the draft. 4 top 5 picks in a row for the Tigers and 5 top 10 picks in 6 years should hopefully form the nucleus of their next contender.

I like that the draft order goes only 18 clubs deep.

I also like that mlb posted with a smallish, plain font. I don't like that jimmy John's stopped having sprouts available. And I still don't like Wilson Phillips. But yeah, draft order is good, only 18 deep and posted with small, non-fancy font. Did I mention I can be tangential? Is Bucky Dent still alive? The horror........the horror.........

So wait, you like sprouts?  Those better not be Brussels sprouts...

"All sprouts are good." That was a Mitch Albom article in Feb of '94

Judging by some of the scouting reports I've read lately I think Kumar may be in play with the 3rd pick.

Not necessarily saying that he would even be the right pick if he were to be there but after fulfilling the Tank for Tork prophecy from last year it would be kinda funny to end up doing the same with FUBAR for Kumar.

It's also entirely possible that one or both the teams ahead of us go cheap. Because a) they are cheap. B) they don't have much in their farms and are heading for rebuilds. They might want that 2 for 1 idea to just add some talent.

Wanted to share this fun tool

https://www.thebaseballgauge.com/history.php?first=min&last=max&tab=prospects

It's retroactive farm system rankings for pretty much all of time. for example you can see the MLB Waar of the tigers tp 30 prospects in 1967, or 1986 or 2006.

For example our best farm system in the last 10 years was in 2014 with a 65 something WAR...Good for 14th...of all systems...for that year. I haz a sad.

Depressing results, but that is a great link.  Thanks.

That's a cool tool.  I just went back and looked up what we were ranked in 2014 and according to ESPN/Law(hates the Tigers) we were 28th with him listing Castellanos as our best prospect.  I only looked at that since I'm a member and BA and others are behind a paywall but I'd imagine they all probably put us near the bottom.
