Still haven't heard anything about how they are going to determine the order.  The fact that they haven't said anything is starting to make me think that they are just going to do it just like it was a normal season.  If that were the case we would be in the 7th spot right now.  We're currently 6.5 back of the Pirates so that's essentially out of reach.   We are only 3 games up in the win column from 2nd pick Texas and only 2 wins up on the Red Sox who are currently in the 3rd spot.

On the other hand there's only 4 wins that separate us from the 15th spot.   So in terms of draft position there is a lot that can change the next 10 games(assuming we play all of them).

I wouldn't blame them for just going with reverse order of record as in a normal season.

Was anything mentioned about revising future draft orders when MLB proposed restructuring the minor league system?  I don't recall any mention of it.

If they want to avoid any criticism or mockery that this isn’t a regular season, than they shouldn’t change how they approach draft order.

Yes.  The season is goofed up enough.  Why potentially add grease to the fire?

If you look at the order, its pretty close what would be expected over 162 games. Pittsburgh is the worst team they are picking first. The only outlier in the top 10 might be Washington.

Boston, too, but your point is accurate.  If we try really hard, we could still finish top 5.  Nice outcome for a season that also has had some positives.

Yeah I thought about including them, but I thought they were going to take a big step down this year, as they had little pitching back in February when Sale went down.

I doubt MLB cares about this variant of criticism.

I wouldn't expect MLB to announce it until after the season independent of whichever way they choose to go.

That's what I would've thought at first but considering they had no problem announcing that they were rescheduling the draft next year to All Star Weekend you would've thought that if there was any other changes to it like determining the draft order they would've just done it then too.

They are waiting to see where teams end up before announcing the plan, because they want to reserve the right to make it how they want to make it.  Nothing more.

If that's the case, then the Red Sox finishing near the bottom will make that decision for them.

I hadn't heard that.  They might as well do something useful during All Star Weekend...Wait All Star weekend?  Are they going to have it on the weekend now?

No that was my mistake, force of habit for me to call it All Star Weekend due to basketball which is the All Star Festivities that I usually pay most attention to.  Anyway this article says that it will be between July 11th and 13th which is a Sunday-Tuesday.  https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/29782890/2021-mlb-draft-move-july-held-atlanta-all-star-events

Iirc if the players union and owners agreed on a season under 80 games then Manfred reserved the right to change the draft logistics. If it stays the same then both the BoSux and Nuts get a top 5 pick.

Those teams aren’t good tho. They would be picking in that general range after a longer season, too.

Passan confirmed in his recent column what was suspected back when the season was being negotiated. The ability of Manfred to make changes to the draft order was reserved for the situation where the season started but had to shut down after a limited number of games were played. With the season being fully completed, they aren’t going to do anything outside of the normal method of determining the order. It will be reverse order based on winning percentage with ties broken by going back to last season’s win percentage.

If you used the silly “last 162” method or last two seasons, then you get up and coming playoff teams like the Padres, Jays, and Marlins picking too high. White Sox, too.

It’s a new year. Teams are different. You can’t go back to 2019 records if they end up finishing the 2020 season as it was scheduled. If it’s valid enough to determine playoff teams, then it has to be valid enough to determine draft order.

I agree with this.  If 60 games constitutes a season, then they shouldn't mess with the established rules.

More games like last night, and we're a top-5 team.

By % right now they'd pick 5th and are 1 game ahead of both Boston and Ariz.

Just looked at draft prospects and there are a few decent looking OF and IF that should go in the top 7-8. When do pitchers and catchers report? Feelin' restless

I'm loving this draft class. Very strong, really deep at SS/sans3b, OF and a few top pitchers. Tigers can get #3 if they lose out.  Oops. Now is the time to tank!
