I have no idea how the whole service time thing works in this particular season so I guess I'll have to take Kiley's word for it but that does seem kinda questionable to me.   It just seems uncharacteristic of notoriously cheap teams like the Royals and Marlins themselves to call up top prospects if they did indeed blow a year of service if the year gets cancelled.   Also the Jays aren't exactly known for throwing money around and they called up Pearson as well.    IDK like I said I don't have the answer so I guess I'll have to go with what Kiley said but I'm not 100% convinced that is accurate.

if you are a contender, sure go ahead and bring a guy up who can help you.

the difference between Singer and Mize could be 2 years of control. if season is cancelled and Mize is bought up late April 2021, tigers control him through 2027.

but if Singer in on Opening Day roster in 2021, the Royals control him thru 2025

Demeritte gets the call up with Maybin going to the injured list.   Probably do or die time for Travis, looked like crap last year, perhaps he can atleast show a little bit of power if he gets any action this time around.  That may be the one trait that allow him to stay in the big leagues, without that I don't see what he has to offer.

With all these cancellations assuming the season actually plays out I wonder if it would be best if the MLB just uses winning percentage to determine the playoff teams instead of trying to make sure each team finishes with 60 games?   Yes it could potentially create an unfair advantage if a certain team ends up playing way fewer games but I think that may just be a sacrifice that you have to make in this unusual season.

If things continue to be like this where entire series get cancelled on a weekly basis it just seems like it would be a major hassle to try to make up all those games.  Just outright cancel them and be done with it.  If one team ends up playing 50 games vs. 60 games so be it.

I believe I heard during one of the games that is indeed what they are doing- though thinking back I don't remember if it was the radio or the TV guys discussing it.

he was the correct call-up.  need to understand what he can do.  was a rookie last season, so I give him a little latitude.

Needs to seize this opportunity, or forever be part of the Melvin Nieves club, which holds many members over the years.

Travis has got something like 14 home runs in the "Regular Season" after a call-up from Toledo, so I'm expecting big things from him.

Wow in that case have to question the thinking of teams like the Royals, Marlins ,Jays, Mariners and a couple other fringe contenders that have called up premium prospects this early in the season.   Two years of control seems like a big risk for teams that need everything to go perfectly to have a chance at the playoffs.

In related news the White Sox just called up Nick Madigral.

Brewers were my team for my first few years of little league so some of my earliest memories of watching baseball was being torn between rooting for "my" team the Brewers and the hometown Tigers.

Gorman freakin Thomas.

If you ever take the Lake Express ferry from Muskegon to Milwaukee, there is a G Thomas shrine in the guest center at the Milwaukee landing

For the locals, sharing the sad news that 97.1’s Jamie Samuelson passed away tonight after a battle with colon cancer. Only 48.

He was very good on the radio—always sensible and with a sarcastic wit.  I’ll miss listening to him. RIP.

Pipeline has updated their top 100.   Tork debuts at number 7 with Mize at number 8.   Tigers currently lead all teams in "prospect points" according to them and by quite a large margin.   They calculate prospects points by giving you 100 or number 1, 99 for number 2 and so on.

Here's a link to our updated top 10 prospects that include 2020 picks with Tork at 1 and Dingler coming in at 9.

Is that shrine new?  I've taken that ferry several times, most recently two years ago,  and I never noticed the Thomas tribute.  I did, however, see the statue of Bud Slug at Miller Park.  Now there's a monument that truly deserves to be torn down.
