2020 Tiger Non-Game Thread Thead

Recommended Posts

I think the only guy that the Tigers would consider trading that would bring back anybody of any value would be Turnbull.  I don't foresee them trading him but if a desperate team makes a Godfather offer who knows.

Why keep him? If they send me international bonus money I'm taking it.

Yes, anything of value, make the trade. But another Dawel Lugo type? I'd rather they make a feeble attempt at the playoffs

Lezcano was the original Sixto.

Who'd win a fight between Six Toe Lezcano and Three Finger Brown?

I would take a Dawel lugo type lottery ticket for Cam. He isn't going to get much better than that.

Rays have some nice middle infielder prospects.  I’d like Xavier Edwards In return.  They already have Adames, with Franco and another higher rated SS Prospect.

Edwards won’t hit for power, but has good speed and OBP skills

There is no way we are as close to desperate as were even 3 years ago.  Riley Greene had a good rookie year.  We drafted Torkelson #1 last June.  Candelario is showing unexpected promise.  Even guys like Jacoby Jones, Victor Reyes, and Willi Castro are not totally to be written off as potential regulars.  And I haven't even mentioned the pitching situation.  Henning apparently thinks every other organization in the league is loaded at the major and minor league levels to consider us in a deep personnel deficit.

I will agree trading Norris is probably the right move given he is a free agent after next year.  Especially to a team like the Rays who are smart enough to maximize his value.

His point isn't that there are as close to desperate as 3 years ago, his point is they have to continue to acquire lottery tickets as they did 3 years ago.

Really, every team should be gathering lottery tickets unless you are all in on the post-season, in which case you give up lottery tickets.

Tampa has a deep farm system. Maybe a player like OF Josh Lowe, despite a swing and miss tendency he has tools - LH power, speed, arm and def. ability. AA might be in a decent position (or at least better than previous deadlines) - in that he does not really 'have' to deal anyone.

I'd prefer that older players be used to accumulate lottery tickets (and of course the Tigers don't have many). I think Boyd may be the only guy over 27 with a contract that might give generate some trade value - but I don't think he has shown enough to get anyone excited. Norris is 27, you could get another 5 yrs out of him at a decent price if you sign him yourself. That's an eternity.

But as always, until you see what's offered.....

We should prioritize a position player who can hit lead off, regardless of position.  Dealing Norris, if his value is high, is the right thing to do.  See Fulmer, Michael and Boyd, Matthew.

That is almost a gamblers fallacy. If you pull the plug on every player who ever has a good season because things might go south for them later, you will never have any good  players. You can only evaluate trade decisions present tense with current information. Hindsight will tell you if the decision turned out well or not, but you cannot infer from hindsight that  the logic of the trade (or rejecting the trade)  was or was not good when it was made (or not made).

Agree Norris should not be trade unless the offer is very good since he would most likely readily accept a modest extension and although we seem to be pitching rich Mize and Skubal have struggled, Manning and Faedo are injured, Wentz is recovering from surgery , Fulmer looks pedestrian and Boyd is inconsistent. The old adage you never have enough pitching still rings true....

I think the Tigers should trade Norris to the Rays, for pitching. The Rays will want to part with prospects like SS Abiezel Ramirez, who they have to cut or expose him to the Rule V draft. I would want either Joe Ryan or Seth Johnson, unless they are willing to trade us McClanahan.

Lowe is an excellent prospect. He hit for good power at AA last year, and is a good defender. Gets on base.

Morosi:

Source: The #Tigers are not engaging in trade talks on Jonathan Schoop, a free agent after this year. Schoop would be a natural player to move if the Tigers planned to sell. Thus, it appears they won't. They are 16-16 and trail the #BlueJays  by 2 games for final AL playoff spot.

Now they have won five in a row and are .500 again, is this the time where we predict that another six-game losing streak is around the corner?

This time predict 3, so they will only lose 6

16-7 outside of the 9 game losing streak.

Random stat: Jose Iglesias has a 1.6% BB rate and a babip above .460. The correction may not happen in this short season but damn.

Im sure his babip is due to those scorching exit velocities that Iglesias is known for.
